Breast pain

I posted in general health but no replies...

I don't know if I'm overthinking this, and I will start by saying that I've recently been suffering from anxiety, including health anxiety (more as a result of being a single parent with 2 small dc, I'm not scared of being ill, I'm scared of dying and leaving them. )

Onto the point, I've been having some breast pain. It's not related to periods or totm, it's not the same as that and is almost continuous. It's in both sides but mostly the left, and towards my armpit. So if I put my right hand over my left breast, where my fingertips are. It's not agony at all, but just there. Sometimes just there, sometimes more of a throbbing.

I called the Drs this morning but couldn't get through and gave up.

Would you want to be seen ASAP? I'm worrying .I don't have any free days ir easy tines that I can see the GP, I'm behind with work due to DC being ill and having to take time off. I dont know if I'm over reacting by worrying, or if I have cause to be worried.

Does your GP have an email address? If so, message them and ask to self-refer to the breast clinic due to pain in the outer breast and armpit.

Hi Op. you should try and be seen but in the meantime don't worry about it. There are any number of non worrying things that can cause breast pain (cysts, hormones etc). Worth seeing your GP but not worth getting in your head about before then.

Just checked, no email address but I'm sure I could find one through work.

Thank you, I am the sort of person who, once something is in my head,I can't let it go. As in, if I don't get checked out, it will definitely be something bad and I will have left it too late.

Previous messenger may assume you can self refer. Not true throughout UK. Pain is VERY unlikely to signify cancer. Persevere with call to GP and push for an in person consultation. They will refer you onwards if they feel needed. How small are your DC and how recently have you breastfed? Hard to do but get some rest and get that GP appointment. A friend/sister/mum will help with DC for the time you need.

Thanks, I will keep trying g to get an appointment. Dc are at school, young primary. It's work that's the problem with seeing the Dr (day off today, was hoping to get an appointment but no luck)

I bf both DC, with no break in between. So I was bf from July 2015 to Aug 2020

Keep trying to get an appointment for your own peace of mind. But to echo AAT65 my understanding (I am not a doctor) is pain is not often an indicator.
I had a mammogram recently and had also been experiencing intermittent pain. The nurse said it was always worth getting breast changes checked but they were generally not that concerned about a patient reporting pain.
Hope you get some answers soon, but there are any number of other possible issues here, it could be hormonal, an infection, etc, so the worst case scenario is also not necessarily the most likely.

Hi OP

I went to a private GP for a fast appointment and was diagnosed with Costochondritis. For me I had severe breast pain, mainly on the left. The ribs under were arm were very tender to touch, with pain radiating up under my armpit and through the breast. It was waking me up at night and constant throb/some sharp pains during the day. I’ve had more than one bout of it.

Not saying don’t see your GP but have a read about this. Common cause on non-hormonal breast pain. Bloody hurts!
