Resolution for a simple life

UnbearableLoss · 28/11/2022 23:39

That's my resolution sorted. How I will achieve it, I have no idea, but my day to day is too chaotic and not of the fun kind. I've been watching old footage and it's just made me hanker for simpler times.

I don't want to cut the DCs clubs even though they contribute to the chaos a lot, along with the school runs.

Has anyone else had similar thoughts and took action?

Step 1 for tomorrow.

Get a shower straight after work and get in comfies, go for a read and enjoy some me time once DC in bed and then watch tv show and chat with DP.

I usually wait until the DC are in bed and then get a bath. The bath water gets cold but I can't be bothered moving because I'm too busy looking at Twitter. Such a waste of my time. I get out and then my DP goes to bed. I stay up late just cos. Feel shitty and tired in the morning.

Step 2 for tomorrow
It's a WFH day so walk the dog at lunch time and get some day light. Instead of lying on the couch thinking how much I hate my job and dreading logging back on.

Meal plan.
Do a bit of the housework and laundry every day.
Declutter.
Go to bed earlier.

I love (actually love 😆) The Minimal Mom on YouTube. Her videos have helped me SO much, and she has 4 kids.

(To clarify, I really think, for me anyway, having a simple living space gives me more time for other things.)

Bestcatmum · 29/11/2022 10:54

Mine is very simple, I live on my own with two cats.
Always something going on in Glastonbury if I need company.
Spending xmas with friends.
But I work for the NHS and tho' I really love my job its mad and I come home and all I want to do is crawl into bed.
But I would not be happy doing anything else so simplification is tricky.

I’m seriously decluttering. Last year’s unwanted, unused Christmas presents ( how many times do you have to say I don’t want presents?) have gone to local charity.
Books, craft stuff are next on the list.
I really want to live in a bare house.

UnbearableLoss · 29/11/2022 17:39

Dog walked at lunch which gave me a bit of a boost and now she only needs a shorter one later so I've got some time back there!

Will watch some The Minimal Mom vids later instead of usual Twitter scrolling :)

Trying to stick to my guns with the early night...such a stupid habit I struggle to break.

Do you really mean you want a simpler life or do you mean you want to be more organised in your current life.

Having a simpler life does not necessarily mean you have more time, and could actually be more time consuming.

What’s a ‘simpler life’? Less clutter, less technology, less stress…? I need a lifestyle change too!

Whatliesbeneath707 · 29/11/2022 17:57

I would start by writing down what a simpler life looks like to you @UnbearableLoss . I would list all the things I would like to change.
Then I would have a suggestion next to each point on the list of how to simplify that.
My example would be:
Cooking Christmas dinner on Christmas day is stressful when we are also trying to visit family on that day. It's all too rushed & it reduces the enjoyment & stresses my daughter.
My solution is that we have a festive afternoon tea type thing on Christmas day & we save the Christmas dinner until Boxing day, when we have time to enjoy cooking & eating it.
Another example for me was that I have done some major decluttering previously (following the Marie Kondo thing loosely). It mentally & physically makes you feel so much better, & it allows you to breathe easier (psychologically), so I'm going to do that over the next week or so, really for Christmas.
I would set my phone alarm to count me down for bedtime, if I was focused on sleep. Alarm goes off an hour before I want to be in bed to allow me time to sort any jobs & it creates almost a deadline for getting things done.

Hmm I think a job closer to home in a less stressful environment would make life simpler and happier for me. It's quite sterile at my current work place and when I'm not working from home I hate the commute. I'm not after banter! Just something a bit more warm and social...but that's another story unconnected to this really

So other than that I think I want to prioritise the basics in life so sleep, healthy food, exercise and enjoying activities/quality time. I'd love to achieve that with walking more, lovely relaxing evenings and having time and motivation to cook good food. A house blitz to declutter is a necessity to make the daily chores manageable. I get overfaced at the moment as there is so much stuff the place gets shit up instantly.

So I guess my biggest problem is time management. I'm off to bed shortly so that's one thing ticked off today but I've eaten absolutely terribly.

Another day tomorrow 😁
