If you could only eat one carb for rest of your life?

Bread, potatoes, rice or pasta - which would you choose?
I think potato as most versatile but bread a close second. I think about this dilemma a lot

Bread, so many different types. We mostly make our own now. Pasta would be hard to forego. Hardly ever eat potatoes nowadays, except roasties when (adult) dd visits as she loves mine. Rice I could do without, just have some form of bread with curries etc instead.

FallingsHowIFeel · 28/11/2022 23:44

Potatoes, I eat a lot of jacket potatoes. I only eat bread maybe once a week, pasta less than that. I hate rice.

Potatoes.

Cooked in any way. Even just a simple jacket potato, or new potatoes boiled in their skins. Mmm the best carb.

(Though toast comes a close second.)

DollyDoofer · 28/11/2022 23:47

Potatoes. I wouldn’t miss bread, pasta or rice at all.

Rice BUT, why isn’t cake an option??

If you choose bread, there's an overlap into cake.

theDudesmummy · 28/11/2022 23:48

Bread/toast

Tuichi · 28/11/2022 23:51

Pragmatically, it would have to be pasta because I eat so many pasta meals it would leave a gaping hole in my diet if I couldn’t have it. But in and of itself the carb dish I’d miss the most would be fried rice. Perfect comfort food.

heidipi · 28/11/2022 23:52

Can I choose chip butties? 😆

If not then bread
No, potatoes
Actually bread sorry
No I’m going with potatoes
Final answer
BREAD!

Now you’ve got me worried that there might be the kind of apocalypse where we have to make this kind of choice.

Shouldershoddy · 28/11/2022 23:54

Bread .
Can happily not eat the other carbs .

Siameasy · 28/11/2022 23:55

Potato 1000%
I ask o think about this alot

Also I think potato is the superior carb as it’s less unhealthy than bread.

Chips or crisps though?

Vegay · 28/11/2022 23:56

Potatoes would be an outright winner, followed by pasta, rice then bread. So glad I don't have to chose in real life though.

Vegay · 28/11/2022 23:58

*choose

Mombie · 29/11/2022 00:04

Potatoes because of chips and roast potatoes. Hot chips with loads of salt n vinegar in cold weather is as close to heaven as you can get.

Is there anything bread like you could make for breakfast with potatoes? Like maybe hash browns or rosti. I’m sure you can make doughnuts with mashed potato too. There is nothing a spud can’t do!

smooththecat · 29/11/2022 00:09

Realistically I’d choose rice, but what about noodles? Fried noodles, soup noodles mmm.

smooththecat · 29/11/2022 00:10

I like potatoes but hardly ever eat them. They go green when I’m not looking and fill the food waste bin, I can’t get over it.

ofwarren · 29/11/2022 00:11

I can't have pasta or bread because of gluten and potatoes bloat me so it's an easy choice of rice for me.
I love rice, especially in sushi.

Noodles are pasta (or rather, pasta is noodles)

I agree with you, but balk at the idea of fried pasta or soup pasta other than pasta as part of soup, which is clearly different.
