Can you ride an E bike without it switched on?

Is it more difficult? I am looking to buy an E bike so I'm
Not limited to flat places. But wouldn't want the extra power all the time. I know the bikes are slightly heavier. But can they still be ridden as normal when switched off?

Yes but they are quite heavy or at least my one is, but works perfectly fine with assistant pedal off.

KatyMac · 28/11/2022 15:38

Yes - but it is heavier

Light weight ebikes are more expensive

I can on my Cowboy but it's so heavy and so much hard work, especially if you had been on a electric and it suddenly switches off!

I'm after a folding one. I already ride a folding normal bike. The ones I have my eye on are about 20kg, I think. The batteries weigh about 1kg I believe.

How heavy is your current bike?

MichaelFabricantWig · 28/11/2022 23:55

Yes but they are very heavy. It might be better to ride it on the lowest level of assistance instead.

E bikes usually have several levels of power. You can ride it on the lowest setting to compensate for the extra weight or just put up with the extra weight and ride with it switched off.

I ride mine without assist unless I'm going uphill. It's heavy compared with my non ebike but it's ok. I've got a Raleigh modus ( something like that) If I was buying one again I'd choose a lighter model.
