eBay or Vinted?

BastardtheCat · 28/11/2022 13:44

I sell clothes now and again on eBay so I'm fairly used to the system.

Never sold on Vinted but the zero fees is appealing.

Which is better?

How do I sort p&p on Vinted? Is it straightforward?

Find it super easy . Go for it - they pay the postage . So less faffing for you

Vinted has vastly fewer users.
There is a thread on here slagging off Vinted, full of Vinted woes.

If you are selling high end clothes and you want to achieve the best price, stick to eBay.

If you have high street/supermarket clothes you are willing to sell for a couple of £, try Vinted.

I've just sold a heap of DD's dresses, jumper dresses, bundles of PJ's etc for £2 each. The money is secondary to me clearing wardrobe space!

Customers can "create a bundle" if you are selling more than one item - usually in the same sex/size.

The buyer pays the postage cost. Select "small" parcel unless you really don't think it will fit Evri's size/weight criteria. I'm not paying more for postage than the item itself! You can't "add" to this cost for packaging materials/your time like you can in eBay.

Vinted's sizing is a bit strange (UK 12 is a "Large") but as with eBay, good photos and a genuine description will help sales.

Payment is made 2 days after the customer receives the item - unless there is an issue.

Same on eBay.
I just sold on Vinted and eBay, I found Vinted a pain. Too many "offers" which I accepted then nothing

gonutkin · 28/11/2022 18:05

Vinted every single day over eBay. I was the same as you, I sold anything I needed to on ebay for the last god knows how many years but vinted is amazing!! Once I got used to how p&p worked it was a game changer. Would never sell on ebay again unless it was an expensive item probably. Definitely give it a shot!

BastardtheCat · 28/11/2022 18:57

Thanks everyone.
I've been offered an acceptable amount for a pair of boots I'm selling. At what point is P&P agreed upon? I don't want to accept the price then having to fork out for postage from that price.

I’ve totally converted to Vinted for simplicity but it’s very bargain basement so you will find buyers aren’t willing to pay much for stuff . Most of my stuff was second hand to start with so I’m happy to sell on cheaply

PhillyJoe · 28/11/2022 19:04

So do Vinted take payment for postage and the
you ax the seller just print it off and send?

PhillyJoe · 28/11/2022 19:05

As not ax

mrsmarmalade12 · 28/11/2022 19:07

Vinted all the way! There's no fees, the postage is really simple as you just take it to the shop and they print the Labels etc,

JamMakingWannaBe · 28/11/2022 19:08

When you create the advert for the item, you select the parcel size - and therefore the associated payment cost. Vinted charge the buyer for postage at the payment stage.

If you sell a top for £3. You get paid £3. The buyer pays £3, plus the Vinted admin charge plus the postage cost.

IIRC, postage is free for your first sale / purchase.

Ahhh I thought it must be! Every so often I get lucky and get an item with free postage which feels like a crazy bargain

Blossomandbee · 28/11/2022 19:16

I love Vinted, really easy to sell and no fees. Haven't had any time wasters or bad experiences so far - touch wood. EBay I find a pain and expensive, plus I don't like their distance selling rules which nearly always side with the buyers and so attracts scammers.
However you won't get as much for higher priced items on Vinted.

That's a massive help Flowers

Scammers paradise. Google Vinted reviews

JamMakingWannaBe · 28/11/2022 20:01

Vinted have some kind of deal with Evri / UPS so postage is cheaper than going direct.

A small parcel is meant to be under 500g but a Poster on another thread said she had sent out over 600 parcels as "small" as Evri/in-post/UPS are not as strict on weight/size as Royal Mail.

The "small" in-post parcel lockers are actually quite big.

20viona · 28/11/2022 20:08

Vinted 10000% over eBay. So easy.

ebay does the same now for p&p

lljkk · 28/11/2022 22:27

I sent something with Evri which buyer never collected.
Item never came back to me.
It literally disappeared.
Nobody at Evri answered my queries where was the item?
I still resort to Evri occasionally, but try hard not to.

I think with Royal Mail App I can send up to 2kg for £2.85. What would Evri charge?

AriettyHomily · 28/11/2022 22:42

Vinted! I'm not doing it to make money, although it's nice, but to declutter.

GythaOggsDaughterInLaw · 29/11/2022 09:37

Does it default to Evri for postage? Is there anyway of selecting Royal Mail? I've just sold something g for the first time as well and I've printed off the delivery slip and it's Evri - don't really trust them after such appalling reviews.
