Are Miele hoovers easier to manoeuvre and store than Henrys?

I had a Henry years ago, and some of the things I hated was it getting stuck behind things, toppling over, being a pain to store with the big tube and mentally preparing myself to drag it out of storage/ up and down stairs. I have smallish rooms with too many cats, corners and chimney breasts, so it was such a faff. I didn’t think Henry was that great on rugs either so definitely wasn’t worth the hassle.

I had a corded Shark liftaway after but the base was too bulky (again small rooms) and it had many other issues. I found it to be a glorified, heavy sweeping brush on hard floors. I am so so tempted by the current Shark cordless offers and all the fancy bits you can whip out when you want to hoover the sofa, or whatever, but reviews are mixed and I am trying to not get sucked in.

I’ve been after a Miele for some time but I wonder whether it will still ‘feel like’ I’m dragging around a Henry and have the same issues. There doesn’t seem to be a shop I can go to and see them physically anymore. I need a decent hoover though, and I am just going around in Miele/Shark circles! I do need to hoover a few times a week which doesn’t help, especially in winter when cats and people are inside more, so I want to get it right this time.

I love my miele but I did buy the roller head as well as the standard one it came with to do our carpets which was better. I had a stand up style Dyson before and found that much harder work than the miele as the miele is so light and the tube can be shortened so that’s what I do when it goes under the stairs

Having used various pull along vacuums (including both Miele and Henry), I think EVERYTHING is easier to pull along than a Henry...

Ormally · 28/11/2022 13:47

Mine is quite an old Miele but much easier than a Henry was, it is a C3 shape so quite difficult to pull over unless it catches on the corner of a wall with the flex a long way extended or something.
It is a lot lighter and uses bags with a double filter (more expensive than most, but ok) - the bag material contributes to the filtering, I think.

I like my miele cat and dog it's very manoevreable and alot more powerful than my cordless shark .

mincepiepie · 28/11/2022 15:33

I have a Miele car and dog and a shark cordless.

I hate the bastard Miele and it's stupid bags and having to drag it about and plug it on and it always does backflips, bashes into stuff. Hurts my knackered middle aged back.

However my new Black Friday baby shark is bloody brilliant and I whip round every day with it on the hard floor downstairs and then the carpet a few times a week. Much better than the Dyson cordless I have. Seems like a proper hoover where as the Dyson was more like giving a quick sweep over th hard floor .

DH. However will be separated from his beloved Miele only in death. And thinks all cordless hoover are pointless. He hoovers about twice a year even though it's his job since i knackered my back.

Well I've had my Miele cat and dog for 14 years and it's still going strong. I had a Henry for a year when I was renting and feel no particular need to go back there...

Anything is easier than a Henry. Miele vacuums are much easier to pull along and store.

MissConductUS · 28/11/2022 15:42

I've never had a Henry, so can't compare them, but I bloody love my Miele vac!

Spanielsarepainless · 28/11/2022 15:45

I've had Mieles for nearly thirty years and I wouldn't swap. The turbo brushes are awesome on dog hair.

ChocoFudge · 28/11/2022 15:47

I have a Miele cat and dog and I hate the bastard thing, can't wait for it to stop working so I can get something better.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 28/11/2022 15:52

I absolutely adore my Miele Cat and Dog. Mum has the same. It’s the best we’ve ever had! We’ve had them over 10 years (before I even had a dog) and they are as fabulous as the day we haggled furiously with JL to price match bought them. Mine only falls over if I’m really abusing it. Otherwise it corners like it’s on rails 😉

BatshitCrazyWoman · 28/11/2022 15:55

Bloody love my Miele Cat and Dog. Also love the bags, as I have a dust allergy, so can't be doing with some sort of cannister thing to empty. Would never ever have any other kind of vacuum cleaner.

Thanks all, glad to hear (mostly) positives

Now I just need to figure out the difference between them all.
