Setting up a new house

Friend is moving into a flat after a nasty abd unexpected split from her (abusive fucker) of a partner. Trying to get her some bits as he's not going to give hee anything. So far we have

  • bed and mattress (inc bedding)
  • chest of drawers and bedside table
  • kitchen stuff - knives, cutlery, dinner service, pan set, utensils, glasses
  • washing basket
  • sofa and tv unit

I know for a fact that I'm missing basic stuff. Ideas please!

(The flat comea with white goods so we don't have to worry about them!)

Thank you!

Somewhere that is easier to eat at and do paperwork/homework:
Table and chairs
Desk and chair

And some way of drying clothes if there's no tumble drier.

Bananaramad · 28/11/2022 04:26

T cloths, towels maybe some not so basics, books candles . Hope your friend will thrive in her new home 🏡

Bananaramad · 28/11/2022 06:06

Tin opener, lamps. Curtains/blinds

QuestionableMouse · 28/11/2022 12:29

Thank you!

We also have a desk, chair and a clothes airer. Have lamps too, though they aren't the biggest.

Going to do a consumable shop when she gets the keys for cleaning stuff and such.

Clothes pegs if there us an outdoor washing line, airer.

QuestionableMouse · 28/11/2022 17:06

Not sure about that - there's a communal outside space but I don't know what the line situation is. Good thought though - will have to check!

QuestionableMouse · 28/11/2022 18:46

Can't do curtains yet because we don't know the window sizes! 😊

An extension cord or two (sockets never where you use/want them).
Rugs and blankets. Warm bed linen/hot water bottle.
kettle/toaster - nice to use your own pristine ones. (I don’t use hotel kettles).
wardrobe and coat hangers.
shelf unit for books and ornaments etc.
radio/cd player/alarm clock/wall clock.

whoruntheworldgirls · 28/11/2022 18:57

Tv? An alexa so she can listen to music? Mugs? ( might be in the dinner set)
If she can afford it, some homely touches, fake plants, scenic pictures, scented candle (asda do a good yankee candle copy) cushions, throws

whoruntheworldgirls · 28/11/2022 18:58

Dehumidifier if needed to help dry laundry. Microwave?

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 28/11/2022 19:00

Bathroom items - bath mat, towels, loo brush, cleaning cloths, wash cloths, toiletries, laundry basket, toilet roll holder, towel rail that bags over the radiator for warm towels.
washing up bowls - always handy for not just kitchen sink washing up.

Marmite27 · 28/11/2022 19:10

Potato peeler, food bags, tupperware

StealingYourWiFi · 28/11/2022 19:17

You can get temporary stick on blinds that are a great make do until you can get curtains!

QuestionableMouse · 28/11/2022 19:18

It's a joint effort between a few of us, honestly! 😁

Just looking round the house...

Table mats
Coasters
Things like a cheese grater, measuring jug, pizza wheel, garlic press, big slotted spoon, chopping board, wooden spoons, peeler
Toilet brush (I do know nobody on MN uses one! Grin)
Soap dish, toothbrush pot for bathroom
Mirrors

Emergency box - first aid essentials, matches, candles

QuestionableMouse · 28/11/2022 20:08

I absolutely use a loo brush! Love them 😂

Jug and grater is a good call!

I've been going around mine but it's hard to know what's really essential and what's just nice to have!
