Private patients. How much did your check up cost? What was included in the price?

I’ve just paid £60 for a few minutes in a chair, very quick check with a mirror. No cleaning. A bit of advice, I can get from the internet and a recommended appointment with the hygienist (for another £60+ ?!?!)

Feel like I’ve been robbed.

I joined a private dentist and paid a £75 consultation fee which included full check up, x rays and scale and polish. Everything was fine, I was there about 45 mins. I’ve now joined their monthly plan which is £17 a month and includes two check ups per year and two hygienist appointments per year. I I need anything else done I think the plan gives me a 20% discount.

Paddingtonthebear · 27/11/2022 19:35

A routine check up is £54.50 if you’re not on the monthly plan.

NinjaMeemaw · 27/11/2022 19:35

As an NHS patient I recently had a check up which cost around £24. My DH went to the same dentist as a private patient 2 weeks earlier for £30. We live in the SE.

Just to add. My DH had X-rays. I didn’t.

Piffle11 · 27/11/2022 19:36

My private check up was £25. The hygienist appointment was £60 - this was optional but recommended- and included scale & polish.

Everydaywheniwakeup · 27/11/2022 19:39

Not sure re check up as my last appointment included other things. Hygienist last week set me back £125 for an hour. I shan't be doing that too often.

TherebytheGraceofGodgoI · 27/11/2022 19:41

I pay a monthly fee of £14. That gives me two dentist check ups and four hygienist clean and polish appointments a year.

Hobnobsandbroomstick · 27/11/2022 19:41

I joined a private dentist earlier this year. I pay £7 a month, which includes a yearly check up with the dentist and a separate 20 minute scale and polish with the hygienist. DP goes twice a year and pays £11 per month.

CMOTDibbler · 27/11/2022 19:45

£54 at my dentist plus £24 for x rays if needed. Or £16.79 a month for 2 dentist checks a year, 2 hygenist visits, and 2 x rays (plus discount on treatments)

Badger1970 · 27/11/2022 19:48

I went 2 weeks ago. It was £75, but in fairness she did a scale and polish while I was in the chair - I was there for 30 minutes. I happily pay that because she's incredibly gentle and as she knows I have got seriously sensitive teeth (thanks diabetes) she is always really careful cleaning my teeth/makes sure one side is numbed.

Ttpetals · 27/11/2022 19:50

£54 for check up all ok. Dentist suggested I have an x-ray as my last was 2019 🤔 no thanks. He was ok when I refused. He stopped asking me if I wanted to make a hygienist appointment a few years ago when I refused, especially when he says brushing etc is good. I suspect they are trying to get more money out of people 😏

MrsMigginsCat · 27/11/2022 19:51

I pay £12 per month and get one check up and one hygienist appointment per year.

MargaretThursday · 27/11/2022 20:23

Private which included an x-ray and some trimming of a filling was £45.

He's not expensive as dentists go and has been brilliant with my dd who's dental phobic.

Jenn3112 · 27/11/2022 21:08

About £45. Took about 10mins. All fine, could have done xrays as they were due but he recommended not to bother until next year as no reason to suggest anything had changed since the last ones. May not have got hard sell as I mentioned in chit chat as I went in that I was a student.

That’s really good. I get the same for £25 - wish my plan was £17!

SouthOfFrance · 27/11/2022 21:16

Private, South East:
Routine appointment with xrays. £42.

I got it wrong, it’s £19 a month. There’s two cheaper options and two more expensive l options on the plan but they said twice a year is fine for me to start with and then I could drop down to once per year. I hadn’t seen a dentist in years prior to this.

TwelveThirty · 27/11/2022 23:02

I paid about £25 and that included x-rays

HundredMilesAnHour · 27/11/2022 23:10

Private check-up was £75 (which includes x-rays). Hygienist is £105 (!!) for 40 mins but she is amazing, uses some super-fancy cutting edge tools and actually spotted the potential for a wisdom tooth problem even before my dentist did (or they were any symptoms). Still eye-watering though.

This is in the City (of London).

Crinkle77 · 27/11/2022 23:16

I recently paid £50 for a check up which included an xray. No cleaning done. I had an emergency appointment a few months back which included x ray, a quick clean of one tooth a prescription for antibiotics.

Thriwit · 27/11/2022 23:24

Last month I paid £45 for a check up, and he cleaned & polished, and kinda trimmed out a chip in a tooth, too

That's an absolute steal. It's cheaper than the NHS by about £120b!

TherebytheGraceofGodgoI · 28/11/2022 00:37

@pigonalipstick my dentist surgery is fab and they have won many awards. I’ve seen similar threads and realise that they are very reasonable, I count myself lucky!
It’s in a Welsh valley town so I’m guessing that’s why they are relatively cheap.
