How do kids listen to music in their room?

Hello my 9 year old DD wants some kind of music player in her room. Apart from putting Spotify on her tablet which seems really crap and expensive for someone who might not use it a lot. What else do people do? How will she know the joy of being able to play Alanis Morissette really loudly when she has had a bad day if there is no music system in her room… or crowded house a lot after you get dumped.. maybe… 😁

Alexa.

MeMyBooksAndMyCats · 27/11/2022 11:43

Alexa

DuchessDandelion · 27/11/2022 11:45

Spotify.

They offer trials/free accounts or you can cancel if not getting used enough

Singleandproud · 27/11/2022 11:49

DD liked a CD player at that age and a trip to the charity shop to stock up on CDs.

Now she's a teen and just listens to Spotify on her phone with headphones on.

Climbie · 27/11/2022 11:59

Spotify so she can discover her own versions of Alanis and Crowded House. Maybe a Bluetooth speaker.

My kids had CD players with MP3 player ports but they were a bit niche at the time and even more so now.

We have a Spotify family account and I think it stacks up quite well compared with buying 4 people CDs over a year.

VerveClique · 27/11/2022 12:01

Deezer family account.

AmberGer · 27/11/2022 12:04

My dc's have an echo dot and we have a family subscription to amazon music.

Daftasabroom · 27/11/2022 12:07

Smart speaker with Spotify Connect

PinkHeadphones · 27/11/2022 12:07

Can’t she have free Spotify? That’s all I use myself.
My oldest DS has Alexa linked to Spotify Premium, but he pays for that out of Christmas/ birthday money and his paper round.
I agree it’s all more of a hassle than when we had a tape player in our bedrooms.

TheSausageKingofChicago · 27/11/2022 12:09

Bluetooth speaker. Ultimate Ears do a good selection, some with built in Alexa.

DiddlyDoris · 27/11/2022 12:13

Bluetooth speaker and Spotify (free) or Alexa. 🙂

liveforsummer · 27/11/2022 12:25

Alexa for us. Doubles as bed time story, alarm clock, weather forecaster, speaking clock and go t of all knowledge too!

HelenHywater · 27/11/2022 12:27

Alexa and family spotify account.

Buzzinwithbez · 27/11/2022 12:29

My son has a cd player with dab radio, he can also play his phone through it vie bluetooth. CDs are cheap.

He's a little older and also had a vinyl player. Currently enjoying Mama Cass, David Bowie, Belle &Sebastian and Radiohead.

liveforsummer · 27/11/2022 12:31

To add we used to have Spotify but it's been the first thing to go when cutting back. Still absolutely loads of ways to access music via Alexa though

wewishyouamerrychristmas · 27/11/2022 12:49

Spotify via an Alexa.

Shinyandnew1 · 27/11/2022 12:52

Three teens here and all listen to music in their bedrooms on AirPods

stargirl1701 · 27/11/2022 12:58

Yoto.

CheesenCrackersmm · 27/11/2022 13:46

Depending on the budget get her a nice pair of headphones (not hearphones). It will sound much better for her and ensure quiet for you.

Brands such as Sennheiser or Beyerdynamic will have something good and not break the bank.

Lolly86 · 27/11/2022 13:47

Alexa and Spotify/ amazon music

ReedOfFate · 27/11/2022 13:59

Spotify and AirPods. She also has a speaker but rarely uses it

Testina · 27/11/2022 14:01

Spotify (mine - complete with good natured arguments when I want it!) and Alexa.

Oldraver · 27/11/2022 14:06

I had this issue a few years ago and was going to get some kind of system for DS until OH said he wouldn't be using cd's at all

We got him a soundbar that he did have attatched to his TV until he reje ted that and it's connected to his pc now

But yea, mostly uses headphones and his phone

boeballs · 27/11/2022 14:12

Alexa or Spotify via a phone/speaker. Good earbuds also (not necessarily expensive though).

Another option is a record player. My DD got one a couple of years ago and loves collecting vinyls, especially hunting in record shops or sourcing obscure /special editions online. It also means every birthday /Christmas people have got something to buy her! She's got a long wish list of new vinyls she'd love.
