Washing at 40 or cold is not a good idea

There is an advert for washing clothes in cold water. I think this is wrong. I washed a load of towels at 40 degrees and had to wash them again as they smelled dirty so how is a cold wash going to remove bacteria?

You sound very credible to me @FatOaf . Do you know how to get at seals to clean them?

My ambition to be incredible is far from being realised then?

By seals I mean the rubber ring around the door opening. If you pull back the edges you'll probably see some black fungus (mould). Getting a cloth in there and wiping it out is probably more effective than running a hot cycle. There are other parts of the machine where water lies stagnant between washes, though, so you might need to run an occasional hot cycle to get rid of mould in those parts.

Cup of white vinegar on a rinse cycle will sort the inside. Vinegar on a cloth cleans the seals 🙂
