Is Gousto worth it?

Have tried Gousto for the first time this week using a 50% off offer and was really impressed with the meals we had. They were really tasty and the portions were decent. Also loved the convenience of not having to think about what was for dinner and having ingredients bought straight to my door.

Does anyone use them often? Is it good value for money? Did it work out cheaper or more expensive for you?

P.S. - if anyone wants to try Gousto for the first time, I have a code that will give you 65% off your first box plus 25% off the first two months, let me know if you would like it.

For us it is. There are 4 of us. The recipes mean everyone cooks on different nights and DC 17 and 18 have started eating a much wider variety. We like trying lots of different dishes from scratch without having huge cupboards of ingredients in stock. Here is the obligatory referral code, you get 65% off and then 40% then 30% I think, I get a £20 discount on 1 box :)

I've been using them.for 6 months and find my overall food spends a month is less.

We get 4 a week for 2 but sometimes stretch it to 3 for our 5 year old with extra rice or veg from the freezer. We then have simpler or frozen stuff for the other meals in the week

Radiodread · 26/11/2022 22:21

That's strange.. I posted above to say, basically, yes, worth it for us. We save money and the food is good. My post was hidden, I have no idea why :/

I have found it's become better value with the cost of living as it hasn't gone up in price too much (yet!)
I get 4 meals a week for the 3 of us, the spare meals are taken to work as lunches.
It means we eat more varied meals than we would otherwise, and eat maybe two simple dinners a week plus a takeaway or meal out the rest of the week.
It's lovely having no waste as I used to be terrible for that

I like it (and have tried HF and other competitors). I think the Asian and Middle Eastern recipes are consistently good, and I love the 10-minute meals. Fair few options that I can then recreate myself and add to my repertoire. Wouldn’t use it every week but once a month or so it’s brilliant.

What did you really say @Radiodread Grin

Love Gousto - it’s actually made me not mind cooking tea.

Goawayangryman · 26/11/2022 22:32

@PuppyMonkey I posted a discount code .. maybe that was the issue.

Or the 10,000 words of vociferous bile I added. Maybe not really

MintChocCornetto · 26/11/2022 22:38

I like it.

I'm not much of a cook - I can follow a recipe and I have a few dishes in my repertoire that I can bang out but I find meal planning and cooking generally quite boring and a bit of a chore

DH used to do most of it but he's been really busy at work and ordering a lot of takeaway - I don't enjoy it and I get annoyed at the expense

I've started to order 2 meals a week but 4 portions so we can put one in the fridge and eat it 2 days in a row. The recipes are straightforward, proper adult size portions and taste good.

Definitely recommend. We're 3 weeks in now and I feel better physically and DH has more money. I tend to order one of their 10 min meals and one that's a bit more involved. But even their more complex dishes don't actually take all that long.

Fluffygoon · 26/11/2022 22:54

I really enjoy them. DD prefers them to HF as she says they use more ingredients and are tastier. Portion sizes are good. I have a few recipes where I’ve bought the basic ingredients and we probably have a box once a month now.

MissDollyMix · 26/11/2022 22:58

We’ve been having them for a few years. Really like that they’ve got us out of a food rut and not having to do loads of menu planning anymore is a godsend! We eat more veggie food and there’s no food waste and I find I don’t spend any more than just doing a regular food shop. The kids are now eating a much better range of food.
