Shower v Bath

Having just wallowed in the bath this morning contemplating life, I realise there are 2 different types of people, those who prefer a shower and those who like a hot bath. Looking at the people I know that have a shower, I notice similar personality traits in them, they are energetic, ambitious, professional, and efficient with their time. People that bath that I know are often more stressed in life, they are deep thinkers and less likely to spring into action. Each has its own merits, the deep thinking bathers often have brilliant ideas that come to them whilst wallowing and the shower people have the energy and drive to put them into practice. The bath helps destress after a long tiring day, whereas the shower will invigorate and help you leap to start the day well.
I wallow away and in my head have solved many of my own issues whilst bathing. Just wondered who on here is a wallower and who is a showering energizer type.
There are of course people that like both showers and baths, these are people that are a combination of both traits, probably showering before work and then relaxing in the bath at the end of the day.

I know the cost of living crisis may make a difference to which you choose but it money was no issue which would you choose

Bath! Everytime, I’m not a stresser, love to lie back and wallow in my bath, with my candles all lit, couldn’t live in a property without a bath, I’m in sixties and retired, so I don’t have children banging on the door for attention, we do have separate shower room so for quickness it will be a shower, but if I had to choose bath it is!

fortyfatandsingle · 26/11/2022 14:24

I'm a showerer but nothing like you describe. I'm so lazy and spend a lot of time faffing aimlessly. Baths just make me too hot and bothered and take too long to cool down after. Showers are far more convenient for hair washing too.
I've been in my house for 4years and only had 3 baths

Jenasaurus · 26/11/2022 14:25

I dont like my body very much so when I am in the bath I can hide it under the water/bubbles etc. Standing up just makes me aware of my wobbly bits :)

I have had a shower on holiday when that is the only option, but I am actually a little scared of showers having put one on before and had scalding water come out over me, also the opposite cold water wouldnt be pleasant, I know there are mixer taps and thermostats now (this was in the days when if someone turns on a tap the shower goes hot or cold)

What you haven’t factored and probably don’t need to at the moment, is that some people have difficulty getting out of the bath. Into it too sometimes.

A low profile shower tray just means a simple step.

sanityisamyth · 26/11/2022 14:37

Much prefer a bath. I have a shower head connected to the mixer tap on the bath. Once the cold tap is on, the hot water pump turns off. So it's either freezing cold or scalding hot. I don't miss not having the option of a shower!!

Notanotherusername4321 · 26/11/2022 14:38

the difference for me is heat.

always hated showers, felt like dancing around in the freezing cold trying to catch the heat from the water. Saw them as a super quick job, in and out before you froze.

baths on the other hand warmed me through to my bones and I loved them. Never showered unless in a major rush. Major wallower!

then I moved house and had one of those fancy cabinets with steam, rainfall etc. the cabinet heats to about 40 degrees and I can stand in there for ages under the hot water in the warmth. Same feeling as bath wallowing, but better for actual washing. I also got a walk in rainfall shower in the ensuite, all plumbed into a mains tank, not the feeble electric ones. I use that one more in the summer when the air temp is higher.

so I am actually a convert to showers, having been a committed wallower for over 40 years. It’s the heat and the quality of the shower!

so that goes against your theory 😂

TigerRag · 26/11/2022 15:08

I don't like baths! I just want to get in, wash and get out! Don't want to wait for a bath.

emmathedilemma · 26/11/2022 15:11

I’d say I fall into your category of shower people but I also love a bath…..but mainly because I’m energetic and it’s good for sore muscles and scrubbing mud out of your toenails after trail running

glamourousindierockandroll · 26/11/2022 15:16

I do both, but the bath for me is definitely comforting. In times of stress, I just want to submerge and watch something mindless on my tablet.

FizzyStream · 26/11/2022 15:18

Bath every time for me. If money and time were no object I'd have one every day!

I have been known to have two in one day Blush and one epic bath lasted four hours when I was in my twenties. Just lay reading my book and kept topping up the hot water!

Augend23 · 26/11/2022 15:20

Hmmm well I don't have a bath very often but that's partly because my bath isn't very nice. I also have gym membership with a fab jacuzzi which I guess is like a bath...

For actually washing I usually shower. Does this make me a both person?

ComtesseDeSpair · 26/11/2022 15:21

I like the idea of a bath, but only in a large enough tub to properly relax; and generally by the time I’ve run a bath that size I’ve changed my mind about it. Hence, we got a hot tub, which makes a superior bath on both counts.

Otherwise I’m a shower person. But I don’t think I’m particular efficient, there’s something quite therapeutic about standing under running water.

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 26/11/2022 15:24

I like both. I just thought everyone did. So what sort of person am I? I enjoy a shower when I want to just get on with my day after a brief interlude and enjoy the rainbows in the water droplets, and I enjoy a bath when I want to ponder life, the universe, and everything and just let my mind reset or enjoy looking at the rainbows in the bubbles.

Isseywith3witchycats · 26/11/2022 15:24

weve just taken our bath out and put in a shower cubicle old house water pressure not brilliant by the time the bath filled up it wasnt worth waiting for so in 3 and a half years havent used the bath at all mainly used the crappy shower attachment over the bath, new one is brilliant thermostatic controlled in and out of shower all clean in ten minutes

And otoh, you haven't factored in that some people can't stand to shower 😉

Personally I prefer a shower as I don't feel as clean in a bath, but then there is the issue with standing in the shower. I have a shower seat, but it somewhat ruins the convenience of showering to not stand in the shower.

EBearhug · 26/11/2022 15:40

I love my bath, and have one most nights before bed. Showers are to get up and ready for the day. Though a shower to rinse off after a bath is best of all.

PeloFondo · 26/11/2022 15:41

Both!
Shower for washing and exfoliating
Bath for relaxing, shaving my legs and contemplating

Shower seat?

toomanychickens · 26/11/2022 20:01

I hate baths and I definitely do not have any of the traits you described for shower people!
I just want to get clean, don't want to waste time going wrinkly in a bath.

XenoBitch · 26/11/2022 20:06

I prefer a wash at the sink.

this is me too when I was younger my mum used to go mad I’d have shower/baths

user1474315215 · 26/11/2022 20:19

Definitely a shower for me. No time for a bath.

Pebbles16 · 26/11/2022 20:32

I used to be a bath person (only had those crappy tap shower head things). I am now a shower person. Have an indulgent bath about once a year (and it does feel VERY indulgent because of the water usage and the fact it has to be SUPER HOT even though I will only be in there for 10 minutes because the water cools down too much). I love the Japanese concept of baths being restorative and showers being cleansing.

Jenasaurus · 26/11/2022 20:52

Some of the showers you mention sound lovely, the one with the heated enclosure sounds the nicest. I love hot tubs too, only went in one on holiday in Ireland for my DS wedding this year and it was 40 degrees, almost too hot, but it was lovely to sit in it at the end of the day, I did worry about getting out though and almost slipped over a couple of times not very elegantly.
