Please recommend me a UK destination/hotel for a few days

Hello, I'd like to go away alone for a few days but not sure where.

Either a town with a bit going on (coffee shops, maybe some shopping) or equally I'd be happy with a nice spa hotel somewhere peaceful. I like Thyme, Dormy House, etc but price seem to have gone up a lot and they're now £400+ per night!

I live in outer London and happy to travel a few hours. I'm considering Brighton or Bristol but not particularly excited about either (though I've never actually been to Bristol!)

The Pig(s) look nice. Any other suggestions? Thank you!

Ely is actually a lovely little town - not sure about accomodation sorry (we camped) but it's got a lot going for it

Bath, most hotels are nice... If you wanted an adventure go to the IOW. Do-able by train/boat from St Pancreas

Most major cities will have Christmas markets on, so you may want to avoid.

Though it's many many years since I've been there a Ely is a beautiful little place the cathedral is magnificent but we was only there for the day I don't know about accommodation.

It might not really be suitable because of cold so weather now and it might also be a bit too far for you north east Coast Scarborough & Whitby are really beautiful towns plenty of little coffee shops interesting places to visit nearby

We stayed at Hope St Hotel in Liverpool recently and loved it. Other than that I’d always recommend Bath.

York's nice and so quick to get to on the train.
Bristol is fun. Bath is pretty, both again very easy by train.
Norwich and Canterbury quite nice but not as good as the first 3.
Liverpool is great but much bigger.
Whitby is gorgeous but a nightmare journey.

You could be in Newcastle on the train in under 3 hours. Great hotels by the river on the quayside. Fantastic atmosphere for strolls people watching. Walking bridge to Baltic to see great art. Short walk to city centre. Small city. Great shopping and all in one place.iIf you like old buildings there is the Keep and Castle ruins. Get the metro to Whitley bay ...takes less than half an hour for lovely stroll coffee and people watching along the prom with StMarys lighthouse in the distance and the crashing waves of the North sea to watch. Or get off at Tynemouth on a Saturday for a fantastic market straight off the metro in the old station. Fantastic 😄

I stayed in the St David's Hotel and spa in Cardiff recently. It was amazing!

Great pool, bed was divine and like sleeping on a cloud, view amazing (even saw bats flying round the bay at dusk.) Staff were lovely, food amazing, luxurious but very unstuffy. Spa gets booked up so I couldn't go but sure that's great too.

Cardiff bay has lots going on and a short walk to the city centre.

As a bonus I star spotted Paul Weller at breakfast too!

Can be expensive but I went on a Sunday/Monday night and got an amazing deal - was under £300 for the two nights.

I will be going back!

Bristol, Bath, Chester and Newcastle are all worth a trip, within lots to see.

Thank you for all of the recommendations! Please keep them coming 😀

Whitby, Staithes, Saltburn if you want coastal, you can stay in any of those and visit the other, as well as being really close to the moors, there's Raithwaite Hall just outside Whitby (pricey but has Spa facilities too) or loads of places in Whitby or just outside, couple of nice B&Bs in the villages between (look at Ellerby, Runswick Bay, Hinderwell and Easington). Saltburn has a couple of nice hotels and self catering places if you'd rather.
I'd second looking at Trip Advisor for reviews but then email/ring and book direct.
