Has anyone tried these, or know anyone who has?

I'm looking for something easier to use and cheaper than Tena pads for my 90 year old DM.

I've seen a brand called Jude too, and I'm sure there are others. They need to hold a lot of liquid 😊

Not those ones but some that just looked like ordinary knickers and were absolutely useless. I need incontinence knickers and a very large pad!

Ilovetocrochet · 26/11/2022 14:16

I’ve seen the adverts but am wary about ordering from unknown companies on FB! Certainly the brands sold in UK stores do not hold a lot of liquid, might be fine for little leaks but not for a full wee!

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 26/11/2022 14:23

Depends on the type of incontinence. I use modibodi who do a variety of volumes that it can take from light to max/overnight.

I use them as mine is a mix of stress and urge incontinence so it's a safety net for me. They are pricey but super comfy and do the job for me.

Is she not entitled to them free on the NHS?
My disabled child got incontinence products free untill we managed to toilet train him when he was nine, also my mum to them after a hospital stay .

LovedFedAndNoonesDead · 26/11/2022 14:52

Inwould say you need more than those knickers linked to - they only hold the equivalent of 8 teaspoons (barely an egg cup full). For large volumes of urine you’re going to need to look at disposable pads either from the supermarket
or from the incontinence nurses.

KnickerlessParsons · 26/11/2022 16:51

Thanks for all your replies.

Apparently she's not entitled to anything on the NHS. But she has plenty of money, so that's not an issue.
She uses Tena pads - I'm just trying to find her something easier to manage - perhaps the knickers aren't as good as they look, so pads it is. Or perhaps pads + the knicks.

You can get knicker style pads but they hold less than the thicker pads. It depends if it's for odd accidents or constant full bladder loss too as there are different types of absorbance.

The knickers you linked are more for stress incontinence than full loss.

Threadkillacilla · 26/11/2022 17:40

The depends brand are good but bulky.

x2boys · 26/11/2022 17:41

Would adult pull ups work?
You can get them from most supermarkets including Aldi ,they might be cheaper online

KnickerlessParsons · 26/11/2022 19:04

It's for constant leakage plus the occasional bigger event ( which I don't think they'd work for)

@Ilovetocrochet

Yes I tried to find the most absorbent ones - heavy duty but·if you piss for England like me - hopeless!

Deathraystare · 27/11/2022 08:07

@KnickerlessParsons

Love your name by the way!

Or the Boots own ones and ID pads or Boots ones.

Mine is like the Angel Falls. As soon as I sit up and get out of a chair 'Whoosh'

Unfortunately due to a heart condition and high blood pressure I have to take a water tablet and found out that with two of my other tablets the side effects are , well basically pissing for England. It makes going out particularly hard because of lack of toilets!

Size wise I am between Medium and large and the leg hole are too big.

firsttimemumhere · 27/11/2022 08:35

I've heard the morrisons own brand of them are quite good. They do the pants and pads.

thebabessavedme · 27/11/2022 09:17

Morning OP, I have had the same issue with my elderly DM, turns out that despite being fairly well off she was entitled to attendance allowance which is there to help cover the cost of things like this. She gets about £400 a month which has paid for a wheelchair and a cleaning lady and new sets of bedding etc I think it could be well worth applying for it.

Tena seem to be the best she has tried.

Really? I'll investigate that. Thank you.

Also thank you to everyone else - your suggestions and comments have been very helpful

Yes my mum gets attendance allowance too they are fairly well.off also , it's none means tested similar.to DLA and PIP.,so it's definitely worth looking into.

HappyHamsters · 27/11/2022 15:34

My mum has plenty of money but gets pads and pants from the local bowel and bladder service, she was referred to them by her g.p or the district nurse and they are on prescription so she doesnt pay. She also gets the pads removed in a special bin from the council.

ZiggyAndChanelle · 27/11/2022 15:35

can nothing be done to help the issue? :( Or does this await us all in the future?

KnickerlessParsons · 27/11/2022 15:40

I don't think so, at least not at
90. Sadly, I think it affects all women in the end, especially if you've given birth.

Interesting. DM lives in a retirement flat and there's a yellow bin in the bin room for pads and dressings so that's all taken care of.

I will look into the prescription and allowance though. We currently buy Tena in bulk from Amazon, who bring the box right up to her flat.

Ask for a referral to the continence nurse. The yellow bags are for clinical waste.

KnickerlessParsons · 27/11/2022 16:11

Incontinence pads are clinical waste, I think.

M&S do 3 x period pants for £20, I use them for incontinence and they work fine

Yes unfortunately there is a correlation. With stress incontinence and childbirth I had two had births I can fully hands on heart say it
Can lead to stress incontinence
