plantar fasciitis

Hi,

my husband is currently suffering from plantar fasciitis and it is really getting him down and he can hardly walk.

All the doctors have said is to be patient and it should get better eventually on its own. Anyone else had this or can recommend anything which might help?

Looking at specialist shoes but don’t know where to start.

Thanks!

Others have given great advice. I’d just add that I find Fitflop shoes the best for helping me. Their soles are designed for this and related conditions.

Skechers sell a range of shoes/trainers with built in arch support called Archfit. They are really comfortable and my PF has not returned since wearing them. I also wore a night brace when I had it which helped enormously.

I have this (as part of fibromyalgia) and the only thing that helps me is wearing good arch support trainers. I use Nike Zoom Pegasus and regularly renew them when they begin to feel a bit slack. It’s not really the look I want but I really suffer wearing any kind of normal shoes. I also have horrible pain in my Achilles’ tendons often for weeks at a time if I dare to wear a heel. I’m also losing weight (still a lot to shift) to see if that helps. There’s nothing that makes you feel old more than having sore feet!

I find doing heel drops on the stairs helped. I did ten on each leg every time I was going upstairs.

I had this for ages and mine was caused by flat feet and tight calves.
I switched to wearing Skechers so my arch was supported.
Also used to do calf stretching exercises and rolling my foot over a tennis ball.
I used to see a physio who would also give my calves and foot a sports massage to loosen the muscles and have them tape my foot with zinc oxide tape. I was always surprised at how effective the tape was.

Just in case anyone is still watching this thread and enduring this horrible pain, I'm finally starting to have some improvement by following these tips.
www.runnersworld.com/uk/health/injury/g767554/beat-plantar-pain/

I stretch my foot a few times before I stand up and have started doing the trigger point massage. I soon found out where the problematic bit was as when I poked my calf it was agony.

Had this from last autumn until early spring this year and my goodness it’s blooming painful. Only my left heel. Felt like a bit of wood with multiple sharp ends was being wedged up my heel.
it was my own fault as wore toe posts for 3 months continuously over the summer and work standing up all day.
switched to Skechers with added arch supports from amazon and on a shopping trip walking I realised it had just ‘gone’ . The relief was immeasurable.

I second the overnight stretching sock, it pulls your toes up so the fibres on the sole cannot contract, hey presto, cured.

I was crippled with it (both feet) for a few months about 5 years ago.

A private podiatrist gave me shoe inserts (off the shelf) and told me to do calf massages, calf stretches, spiky ball foot massage and taped the feet with physio tape. I had to stop dancing for a few months (ballet and tap) and it gradually got better. I do a lot of yoga now and I agree the downward facing dogs help, I have no problems at all now and can walk barefoot again.
