Outdoor lights (normal ones not Christmas lights)

Don’t know if it’s just me but it seems like a lot less houses have their outdoor lights switched on this year. I didn’t realise how much light they provide alongside streetlights but it just seems so much darker this year when I’m out walking my dog!

has anyone else noticed this? In my house we have ones that flick on and off when there’s movement but a lot of people have ones that just stay on. I guess the are switched off to use electricity this year.

if you do keep yours on is it just for someone who is coming home in the dark? For security reasons?? Weird thing to be curious about but I’d just never thought of it until recently.

I have a smart bulb in my outside light. In winter it comes on at sunset and goes off at 1130pm. Just don't like my driveway being in darkness. It is 9 watts so costs 0.3 pence per hour to run. Not going to save much by turning that off compared to reducing oven or tumble dryer use

I have govee smart uplighters all along the front lighting up the house. It's up a long dark drive and we discovered when we first bought the place some years ago that people weren't even realising there was a house up here as it was so dark at night.
We keep them on mostly for security, but they don't cost much to run anyway. They also have themes so can flash green for halloween yes I'm a child
