How much credit do you have in your energy account?

Gwdihooooo · 24/11/2022 18:06

I just want to gauge whether mine is right as we seem to have a lot of credit!

We have £900cr and pay £180 a month. We’re using approx £200 of energy (gas/elec combined) each statement.

The Oct/Nov usage hasn’t appeared yet.

How much credit are you in? x

About £400 , pay £125 dd. Just put the heating on so I know it'll go down.

NeedAChangeAsIAmSoooOuting · 24/11/2022 19:55

I pay as I go on prepayment meters and have about £150 credit on the meter. I keep topping up £20 here and there.

AnnaMagnani · 24/11/2022 19:55

Loads as the Direct Debit was increased before the new price cap came in so I've been overpaying, and we've used a lot less heating than normal.

Am leaving it as who knows what will happen next year.

About £2. I didn't know having hundreds of pounds of credit on your account is a thing. Do you all have smart meters?

I have a smart meter and a variable direct debit linked to actual usage of dual fuel gas and leccy.

Spending about £5 a day but will probably go up as getting chilly.

Elsiebear90 · 24/11/2022 20:11

£685. We pay £135 a month, used £151 last month, but expect this month’s to be much higher.

heymammy · 24/11/2022 20:12

For anyone with British Gas and their ridiculous 6 monthly billing, I called them up and changed it to monthly billing with no problem. Much easier to keep an eye on usage and spending!

Frlrlrubert · 24/11/2022 20:15

£1200. It's so high because I just won a long running dispute with British Gas and they had to refund the money they basically stole from me at the start of the year plus the 'being shit' payment ordered by the ombudsman. DD is £283 and it's now estimated that I'll be £500 up at the end of the tariff (In Jan 24), but, we've got houseguests this winter who feel the cold so I'm thinking I'll leave it in there so we don't worry about heating this winter.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 24/11/2022 20:17

£600 and pay £330 a month. We were in a lot more credit but got a refund.

TellMeWhere · 24/11/2022 20:17

For electric, 575 in credit. Pay 250 a month. Using around 200 a month at the min.

Gas is only our hob so we use next to bugger all. £10 a month.

Optimist2020 · 24/11/2022 20:18

£455 credit in gas and £55 electric. Our bill for august - November have just been taken. Our gas usage has reduced by 38% compared to last year (we would heat the house to 23 degrees) .

Woolandwonder · 24/11/2022 20:18

900 and paying 180 a month. Obviously actual usage a lot less over the summer. Feel lucky that there's a buffer and happy for it to remain, although still trying to be quite careful with heating.

sparklecrazy · 24/11/2022 20:21

itwasntmetho · 24/11/2022 19:06

£0.00
I have a variable DD with Shell, still get the DD discount, but they can only take for what I actually use.

Same here with Shell. We do a monthly meter read and were billed for what we use. They take the DD monthly according to the meter reads.

Coolcreature · 24/11/2022 20:22

£460credit, reading these I'm wondering if I should add more? We use about £130pm (smart meter)

User38899953 · 24/11/2022 20:22

SunflowerSmith · 24/11/2022 18:16

£864 in credit and pay £133 a month.

I don't know whether to request a few hundred back or leave it and see if it starts going down quickly.

I'm about the same. Leaving it in to soften the blow when the heating goes on more often

2tired2bewitty · 24/11/2022 20:27

We’re about £1000 in credit, but our house is cheap to run in summer and very expensive in winter so I’m happy with this as it means we can put the heating on without worrying too much.

changingforthebetter3 · 24/11/2022 20:27

£325 credit, pay £200pm

Benjispruce4 · 24/11/2022 20:28

£350.

Benjispruce4 · 24/11/2022 20:28

Pay £267

Athenen0ctua · 24/11/2022 20:30

£200 in credit, paying £21 (+£66 government payment) a month.

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 24/11/2022 20:34

We were £320 in credit on our last bill (a week ago) and they refunded the whole amount to my bank 😫😫 I was keeping it their to help us when our fix ends in January and we get a really nasty shock. Our direct debit is going up from 135 to 220 in January as well.

Bobbybobbins · 24/11/2022 20:36

Really interesting to read this. I noticed today we were £930 in credit and was a bit surprised but decided to leave it as no doubt it will go! Have DS poorly off school today and it got to 1pm, we were under a blanket together cold and I thought this is ridiculous and turned the heating on!

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 24/11/2022 20:40

£680 in credit, but that doesn't include usage for Oct and Nov which is about £420 so far. Monthly DD is £350 so once the DD has gone out on 1st Dec, and taking into account usage, we'll be about £600 in credit. I'm happy with that, we can afford the DD and I'd rather keep it high and build up a buffer to absorb next year's increase.

MadAndGlad · 24/11/2022 20:47

I had £650 credit last month. Have been putting heating on a bit to dry clothes this month and now only have £250 credit. It's not even winter yet.

Cassillero · 24/11/2022 20:49

I'm 1500 in credit and pay 265 per month. I'm expecting to use up most of the credit by spring. There may be a few hundred left over but I it will depend on how long winter lasts, how much coal I buy, how wet it is.

DohaDragon · 24/11/2022 20:51

£19 in credit.
