Moved into our bungalow last year. And not had a house like this for condensation and then mould. Fed up with having to keep on top of this ( sons room is the worst ).
Has anyone had one of these installed. Can u tell me the cost and the running amounts? Would u recommend it?

We have an Envirovent. House was always full of condensation and mould. Now it’s clear. It was expensive to buy new and install years ago but now you can often get them second hand on eBay for a fraction of the price but not sure how long the warranty would be for. It costs hardly anything to run. Smart meter always on green

Crockof · 24/11/2022 18:42

Yes, it has barely made any difference. Still mould on walls and condensation on walls but less water on window.

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 24/11/2022 18:48

Hmmmm I wonder what the difference is. why does one house have more mould and condensation and others don’t. My last house didn’t have this problem!

Had one in my old house, installed in 2015 at a cost of about 2k. Solved the problem instantly. Debating getting one for this place, but not sure it would work with the external insulation I have

Snigger, PIV

minipie · 24/11/2022 20:00

So my understanding is that a PIV ventilator will only help IF the problem is that your house is too “sealed” and there isn’t enough exchange of air.

If your house is already well ventilated eg old windows with gaps, or you open the windows regularly, or trickle vents, then probably it’s caused by something else and a PIV won’t do anything. You’d need to figure out what’s causing all the moisture eg do you leave wet laundry all over the place or lots of long hot showers etc.

BloodyAutocarrot · 24/11/2022 20:36

Gah, I was expecting a queef thread! Oh the disappointment 😁

ValerieDoonican · 24/11/2022 20:46

Some people worry that PIV (the ventilation sort) drives rhe moisture into the walls and you might get hidden damp/moild issues. Also it is drawing air feom the lodt so only works if you have a well-ventilated loft space, and it is clean ip there otherwise it blows the dirt into your house.

An alternative is trickle vents and continuous running extract fans in kitchen, bathrooms etc (quieter than intermittent fans, but as they are running over a full day, they move considerably more air)

ValerieDoonican · 24/11/2022 20:48

The other thing to check is if you have cavity insulation. Good cavity insulation makes your walls warmer and reduces damp, cavity insulation in the wrong place/done badly can make damp issues worse by tracking moisture in when it rains.

Stop it, you're ruining a perfectly good smutty-sounding thread, full of sniggers from grown ass women, with your common sense replies.
Honestly. The cheek!
