Registering dropped kerb for enforcement purposes

Hello,

We have a dropped kerb, and our neighbours don't. They have a small front garden instead of a driveway. They have a large SUV which they park on the tiny bit of kerb outside their house. Their car is far too big for the space and overhangs our dropped kerb (as well as their neighbours dropped kerb on the other side) and it means that the only way we can get out of our drive is by driving on the neighbour's driveway on the other side of us. Diagram attached if anyone is interested, but essentially, they are blocking our drive and there's no question about that.

They used to have a small hatchback parked there which was still annoying, but didn't overhang our kerb. Then they upgraded to the SUV and it's much more of a problem. They are aware that it's an issue - we have already (very politely) asked them to move their car and explained that it makes it very difficult to get into our own drive. If our neighbour on the other side of us had two cars on her drive, it would even make it impossible for us to get out, because we have to drive on her driveway to get around our other neighbour's SUV.

They did move their car on that occasion, but then moved it back to park it in the same place again. I keep wondering about asking them to move it again, but to be honest, they're very unapproachable and quite defensive and I just can't be bothered with the drama (plus, I'm actually quite scared of them).

Anyway, my actual question isn't about whether they are being unreasonable or not (they are) but whether we could anonymously register our dropped kerb for enforcement. Has anyone done this? And is it possible to find out whether someone has? I found out that you can register your dropped kerb for enforcement (i.e. enforcement officers will routinely come around to check it) but will our neighbours be able to find out that we registered our dropped kerb?

I think they will obviously know you registered it. Who else would register your dropped kerb? Confused
That aside, you might be annoying your other neighbour by driving over their drive to access yours, there are enough threads on here from people annoyed their neighbours drive over their drive for that to be a real possibility. I’d be making them move each time so you become enough of an annoyance they either stop parking there or change to a smaller vehicle again.

Yes I'm sure we do annoy them 😕

Yes, it would only be us who would register our dropped kerb, but can you actually find out which dropped kerbs are registered? I assume parking enforcement officers would give tickets to any cars parked over dropped kerbs, not just ours.

Lovely diagram. 🙂

I think you can only register your own.

I'm actually quite scared of them

Do you think perhaps that is what they're relying on, and they know you won't challenge them? Is this symptomatic of a wider issue, have you had problems before or is it just that you find them intimidating because you lack confidence?

I would also imagine your other neighbour can't be thrilled about you going on their drive every time you want to get out.

Either register it or just report on an ad hoc basis. A few PCNs should stop them.

Yes wider issues. He is aggressive and rude and we hear them screaming at each other through the walls. They leave their dog to bark and when we mentioned it (again, very politely) they were extremely rude and defensive. Basically, not the kind of neighbours we'd want to get on the wrong side of, and not neighbours we can reason with. We're not confrontational and just don't want to make our living situation unpleasant.

You could see if the neighbour the other side wants to do the same, then he won’t know which of you did it.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 24/11/2022 14:16

Ah, ok.

Maybe ring the council and explain you are worried about intimidation and ask if anyone can check if it's registered?

StarbucksSmarterSister · 24/11/2022 14:18

Toomanysleepycats

Excellent idea! Everyone could register theirs, if they haven't already.

C101 · 24/11/2022 14:20

Haha yes good idea. I would just assume if a parking enforcement officer was walking down the street they wouldn't only give tickets to cars parked over registered dropped kerbs, surely? As it's illegal to park over ANY dropped kerb! I might take your advice though and contact the council though to check.

We've just had two weeks of them being away on holiday and it was so nice to just be able to drive in and out of our drive easily, which is why it's annoying me so much now they're back.

No, they'd give tickets to everyone, it's an offence.

Good luck.

We have a white line painted on the road in front of our and our neighbours dropped kerb. Would the council be able to paint one if registered?

C101 · 24/11/2022 16:07

Ooh I think having a white line painted might make it more obvious that we'd registered our dropped kerb and piss off our neighbours even more!
