Not mine but a work colleague told me when their partner was dying In hospital, the manager and another colleague turned up at the hospital unannounced. Then they did it again when they had passed away. They turned up unannounced at her house. I find it so so strange. Like they were lying.

cleanasawhistle · 24/11/2022 12:24

My MIL turned up uninvited at my front door with about 6 of her various neighbours kids.
I didn't let them in.
Was a bit perplexed as she wasn't a keen grandmother, never ever offered to take our kids anywhere.

MrsSchadenfreude · 24/11/2022 12:29

@Whisperingangels I’d have silently handed her the cleaning bill with my bank details.

Not friends but parents… kept a key to my flat (I didn’t know they had one), came by to “drop something off” and left me a really long note about the disgusting state of the place. I called them when I got back saying, I’d been back in Poland for the past two weeks and a friend was staying, so it was her stuff and mess.

Jadey31 · 24/11/2022 12:30

So friend but family 🧐

So I'd given birth 5 days prior and my mum, dad and brother came to visit their new family member. Around lunch time came and my brother suggested fish and chips. My husband and I both said no so you'd of thought they wouldn't have any but they still ordered them and the 3 of them sat in the dining room each their fish and chips and stinking my house out! I sat in the living room and cried (hormones) I wish I'd said something at the time but I just couldn't believe it. So rude and that was nearly 2 years ago and still not really over it.

peaceandove · 24/11/2022 12:37

Years ago, my MIL decided she wanted to read a book I was reading. She knew I was reading it because it was on my bedside table, with a bookmark in it. She just decided to take it home with her. Didn't ask and no explanation was given.

She also borrowed a very expensive Philip Treacey hat belonging to my Mum, to wear to a wedding. The hat was kept on top of a wardrobe in it's own box. MIL not only borrowed it (without asking, again) but proceeded to remove every scrap of silk trim from it "because the pink silk wouldn't match her outfit".

My sister re-arranged my sitting room furniture

One friend reorganises things, like my cutlery drawer or pot cupboard. I just let her crack on as she clearly thinks she’s helping. She’s not, and obvs can’t grasp that I have it the way I want it.

had a bbq a few years back and came inside, went upstairs to get something. to find one female guest upstairs peering in all the rooms. She just smiled at me said hi, walked past me and went downstairs like it was totally normal to find a guest peering in the bedroom.

Omg I read this as peeing in all the rooms 😆

Stayed with a friend at mutual friend’s house for weekend. We left on Monday after mutual friend gone to work.I popped out to get flowers to leave. Came back to find other friend vigorously cleaning the house, full on hoovering, bleach down toilets, clearing dishes, emptying bins, stripping beds. All this wasn’t mess we’d caused, mutual friend is not house prod at all and house was v messy. She left it looking like a new pin. Mutual friend never said a word…

Let me know who this is and I'll invite them to stay! Grin

Chdjdn · 24/11/2022 13:02

@Jadey31 I’m confused, did you want them to leave or were you suggesting something different for lunch?

romdowa · 24/11/2022 13:05

I lived in a bungalow years and years ago and after a night out a friend climbed over my house. Then lost a piece of jewellery somewhere on the roof. So had to go back over again 🙈

Jadey31 · 24/11/2022 13:11

@Chdjdn I offered an alternative lunch! My brother insisted he only wanted fish and chips. Stunk the house out Blush

Dogsinthecradle · 24/11/2022 13:15

Not a friend but my family

my mother is narcissistic and my dad enables her-my children where hers to make all the decisions,I was just the birth giver and was meant to go along with this-all the grunt work but none of the joy

i was in hospital, having just given birth to number 4 baby and my dad was babysitting

i was due out about 1pm and for some reason my mother told him that my house was a tip (it wasn’t) and that I need help to tidy it all away,so dad decided to tip everything that was upstairs, down the stairs

he got the kids to help-they had great fun pulling stuff out of drawers and wardrobes, flinging it all down the stairs

i mean everything-toys,clothes,bedding,random crap from my bedside drawer, pictures off the walls, curtains, shampoo, toothbrushes, shower gel,the shower curtain and mat-if it was upstairs and not pinned down-it got slung down the stairs

i walked in,holding my newborn and was greeted with 3 kids jumping up and down on all this stuff-having a blast with both grandparents cheering them on-to which I got a cherry wave and a ‘bye then’ as they walked out

im not joking when I say it took me two days to put everything back (and it cost a fortune to replace all the stuff that got broken-I was a single parent at that point)

I’m nc with my parents now

who does that to a woman who’d given birth 16 hours earlier?

problembottom · 24/11/2022 13:19

A friend's husband left a bag of coke in my downstairs loo. We'd had a few couples round with their kids one afternoon. So on a bloody playdate essentially!

Bestcatmum · 24/11/2022 13:21

Unfortunately I have done more to friends in my house more than things friends have done to me.
I had a group of very uptight people over to start a book club, I didn't continue with it because they were really not my kind of people, nobody had any conversation and it was all very dry.
When they had all left I found one of them had been sick in my bath, I don't know who as they had all used the loo once during the evening and nobody owned up.
I forgot to tell one of my friends not to stroke my cat Bunny, I always tell them because although she seems super friendly she will turn on you like a snake if you touch her She did turn on my friend like a snake and bit her down to the bone - I had to take her to hospital for shots.

RaRaRaspoutine · 24/11/2022 13:22

When I was at uni we had a houseparty for my birthday. The person I was seeing at the time went home with someone else :/ then later the remaining guests were all couples and were drunkenly snogging whilst I sat there staring very hard at the TV, totally sobered up, trying to pretend I wasn't there. It felt very weird. Like being a eunuch at an orgy.

Georgyporky · 24/11/2022 13:22

A work colleague came to my home to collect something, & brought her 3/4 year old brat DC with her.
I put the kettle on, child demanded a biscuit then had a tantrum when I said I didn't have any.
Colleague said "but you must have" then started searching my cupboards !
I switched off the kettle, pushed the file into her arms & said "goodbye".

euff · 24/11/2022 13:25

@cleanasawhistle I guess thats why she was coming to yours? She looks good to her neighbours but was hoping you would do the entertaining!

nomcachange · 24/11/2022 13:26

Not friend. SIL. came for Christmas lunch and brought a pizza. Got me to make space in the small oven and then fed her kids that directly before I produced all the food I'd spent days cooking (while also being heavily preg and working FT and with a young daughter to contend with), rude/strange woman!

euff · 24/11/2022 13:27

@Dogsinthecradle that's absolutely awful. Hope you didn't have too much more to deal with after that.Flowers

MadeInChorley · 24/11/2022 13:30

One of my best friends from
school stayed the night once with her lovely husband. They live overseas. In the middle of the night after some alcohol, the husband got up, sleepwalked around the flat and in to our bedroom and, stark naked, climbed into bed with us. Then got out, had a wee in the corner of our bedroom and went back to bed. All sound asleep.

barskits · 24/11/2022 13:31

We had an open-plan house where the staircase went upstairs from the lounge. One of our friends got plastered, went to go upstairs to the loo and fell sideways straight over the banisters and landed on his wife sitting on the sofa below.

I don't think she ever forgave him.

There has to be more to this surely? They just ordered and ate lunch?

Only a very mild one compared to some of these, but one friend always reorganises things.

Not just puts them back once she's used them in the wrong place - she'll move things.

Like I chose my nice looking glasses to go in the glass front cupboard, and she'll swap them with some ugly ones in a closed cupboard, because they're used more often.

She moves cushions, ornaments etc - and finishes with a kind smile, as if to say, "there, fixed it for you".

I would be telling her to fuck right off with meddling in my house! Cheeky bitch!

BeginningToLookALotLike · 24/11/2022 13:31

She left her underwear on the floor of the spare room and thought it was hilarious that I then had to pick it up and throw it away (she didn't want it back).
