5 year old with sensory issues?

My 5 year old DD hates having her teeth brushed. And I mean will fight us every single day. I often have to force it which feels awful.

We've tried speaking to the dentist, different tooth brushes and paste, distractions and letting her have control. Some things work for a week or so then we're back to our normal battle. She can't be reasoned with in the moment. She just tells us she hates it but can't say why.

I'm beginning to wonder if it's a sensory issue with her mouth as she's currently on antibiotics and we have to fight to get her to take them too.

Strangely her eating is fine and doesn't really shy away from different foods.

Any advise oh wise ones.

I'm at a loss and I'm finding myself running out of patience and dreading the battle each morning! 🤦‍♀️

Is it a taste issue? Have you tried flavour free toothpaste from Holland and Barrett?

Are you using a manual or electric toothbrush?
Brushing may be more or less of an issue depending on diet.
Flavour of toothpaste can make a HUGE difference too.
My DS1 has sensory issues and now uses an electric toothbrush with a late he's chosen (after trying loads), and has a fairly low sugar diet. While his teeth do sometimes become stained from poor brushing, they are healthy. His brother is an absolute sugar fiend but brushes very well, so also has good teeth.
DS1 rarely brushes in the mornings - this is a compromise due to the stress the sensory issues cause, and 'allowed' because he does brush every night.
