HP and the Cursed Child with 9yr old?

Has anyone been to see the play? Would it be suitable for an HP mad 9yr old?

worked out might be too long… although she’s good a sitting and watching stuff. Or too… dare I say it, as a massive hp fan myself… too boring/lots of telling etc.

If she’s HP mad then it will be absolutely fine. It’s perfect for that age I’d say. Plenty of effects and references to the original to hold the interest.

I’ve taken kids that age twice but we did opt for different days as even for me (massive theatre fan!) it was a bit much for one day.

Different days as in each part?

Has she already read all the books and seen all the films?
If not, then don't take her.

Coolyule · 23/11/2022 11:28

Only if the 9 year old has seen all the films or even better read all the books otherwise the play might be harder to follow. I went to see it over 2 days- it was great!

I hope it is ok as I've got tickets for 9yo dd2 for Christmas!

She has read all the books (twice) but has only seen up to film 5, can anyone give me info about if we need to watch the other films first? I assumed if she knows the plot from the books it would be ok?

Yes. Not sure if that’s still an option but we did successive nights.
I don’t think it matters if they’ve read the books or watched the movies personally (so long as they have done one or the other).

Thanks. Yeah saw it as an option to split

iirc it is either Thur & Fri nights separately OR both on Sat OR both on Sun.

ie You can't do one on Sat and one on Sun.

I took my Harry Potter mad dd for her 10th birthday present. She absolutely loved it and still talks about it a few years on! I think you need to have read the 4th book or seen the film to properly get the plot - you don't need to have read them all. We saw both plays on the same day. I think if I were to do it again I would watch on separate days as it does make a long day!
