Posting here because I'd like some success stories and I assume in Weight loss it is still works in progress.

I'm 4 stone overweight, 54, always slim till hit perimenopause and menopause. I eat healthily but too much and I comfort eat cheese and biscuits and crisps and like a glass of wine.

I used to do a lot more exercise.

Basically I need a kick up the bum, some motivating stories and some ideas of people who have done this while eating fairly normally at normal times.

I used the free NHS Weight Loss App. Lost my target half stone in 6 weeks with minimal effort.

I got fed up of diets and just had weight loss surgery.

that cured it.

Non faddy is simply to eat less. Cut out the wine, and cheese and biscuits.

you’ll get people in a sec swearing you need to cut carbs, insulin resistance etc and how they lost stones easily.

you have to find what works for you to help you eat less. If high protein makes you feel full and you eat less, great. If eating 3 regular meals stops the cheese cracker habit and you eat less, great. If you fast, and that helps you eat less, great.

for me I tried all the things over many years. None of it is easy. Fasting leaves me starving and I binge. Low carb and I binge on cheese. Neither of which helps me eat less.

what worked for me was going back to eating “properly”. Balanced, calorie controlled, at regular times. So 200cal breakfast, be that toast, porridge, eggs, cereal. Lunch 2-400 cals, sandwich, noodles, salads. Snack to keep my going until tea- another 400 cals or so. Steady 2lb loss a week.

i'm nearly 50 and lost 4 stone on Ozempic.

It enabled me to do 'non-faddy' - cut out all the chocolate, cheese etc and eat smaller portions.

I lost a considerable amount aged about 50. It was basically by eating less. I became accustomed to lower intake after a week or so, and then it was just a case of boringly sticking with it until the task was done.

When I was getting near target, I took up running, and I could eat a little more (though tbh I used most of my 'exercise' calories for booze!)

I put a fair amount back on when I was injured, because I kept eating in the 'with exercise' quantities! Getting to grips with that now.

My top tip would be to cut out alcohol - empty calories, plus weakened resolve leading to nibbling

I’ve referred myself onto the nhs weight loss program and have my first session in 2 weeks. Think it’s like an online weight watchers group. I’ve never been as fat as I am now and just can’t seem to get started. Good luck 🤞

I think boringly sticking with it is probably the key. I've got a goal, a weight loss in mind by a holiday in March. Not the full amount but enough to be more comfortable.

And less alcohol.

In my head I'm still early 20s when I could eat and drink anything - but I also walked miles every week, did a load of exercise and just was young.

I just eat less each year. I’m active but I’m not giving up any food I like so I eat the same food but not as much of it.

I’ve never put on weight and always been slim but made a conscious effort as I’ve got older to eat less in terms of portion size.

Buckland123 · 23/11/2022 14:08

You said it yourself- you are comfort eating. Stop that and the weight will come off! Obviously it’s harder than that sounds, but it’s also as simple as that too. Eat less & don’t drink alcohol.

I've had great success eating in a calorie deficit and using the nutricheck app on my phone. Also by following The Fitness Chef on SM.
I feel calmer around food and not worried about choices I make. I've found it incredibly freeing

im 60 now and this year lost 1 stone by following the Glucose revolution method. ate all my normal foods, i cook mostly home foods, not a great takeaway eater, but had kept all the baby weight, and added a stone with menopause.
it was the easiest stone i have ever lost and it's still lost nearly a year later.
