My dentist would like £150 for a white filling for DS - id this the standard rate?

Apparently, they are able to fit a silver filling on the NHS but not a white one for the area of the mouth in which he needs it. The surgery is really grubby and the dentist is extremely heavy handed.

Could anyone recommend a private practice in London with more reasonable rates and cleaner conditions who offer both NHS and private? Thanks

If the practice is genuinely dirty then you need to report it to cqc

Why is the dentist spraying and wiping?

However if hes under 15 amalgam is prohibited as being phased out, so he should be offered a white filling.

This is encouraging but I will never allow my DC to have mercury fillings and I will never have them myself. That is not to say that I have never had them during my own childhood.

She never placed any tissue covers on the chair. I am fussy about cleaning products so I put my scarf over it. I don't use those products at home so I was not about to plonk my hair onto a sprayed surface seconds after she had done this. If I never had a covering then I think I would have left. I would never report her, I consider myself an ex patient from today and we should have left at that point.

Just to clarify, the practice used to be run by an excellent dentist who retired during covid so I had not been there for over two years and I had never used this particular dentist. It could even be under new ownership as I can see that the name of the practice has changed. It doesn't matter now I guess.

I'm in London and pay more than that. I guess that's the going rate

Prettybubblesintheair · 23/11/2022 13:11

Sorry to hijack the thread but I’m a receptionist at a dental practice in London and we are accepting new nhs patients please pm if you’d like more info!

i don’t know of any dentist that uses ‘tissue covers’ for the chair. That’s the whole point of the dental chair being made of a material that can be sprayed and wiped clean

I'm a dental nurse.. NHS dentists have strict rules to follow otherwise they will get into trouble regarding white composite fillings. Like PP said it's different for young children and pregnant women but even then they could give a cheaper temporary white filling called glass ionomer and have the pregnant woman come back after baby has been born to put amalgam in and childrens baby teeth will fall out.

In regards to your mouth bleeding after a clean.. it's probably as you haven't been since before the pandemic so there would be a slight build up that's irritating your gums.

I live far down Wales and would expect to pay around £80-£110 for a composite filling on molar.

No dentist uses tissue covers. They use clinical cleaning products and have surgery's designed so they are wipe clean.

Either the dentist has been cleaning or they haven't. Your fear of the cleaning products doesn't mean the practice isn't clean.

CarPoor · 23/11/2022 16:48

Also yes it's normal to spit blood after a clean. By nature if you need a clean you will likely have gingival inflammation and therefore bleeding.
