If you grew up in a house that had the same meals on the same days every week, what did you think? Did you get fed up with it or did you like the routine?

My friends mum did this but mine didn't and I thought it was so strange. Meal planning is one thing, but the same thing every Monday would do my head in.

Or do you do this as an adult?

The usual disclaimers of ND aside of course.

My grandparents did this, they've been dead a decade but I can remember most of the menu. They were Irish and potatos featured at every meal.

M: cold meat from day before boiled potato's, salad
T: Chops, mash potatos, veg
W: Ham, egg, chips, salad
T: Turkey burgers, mash and peas
F: Fish, new potato's and pea
S: Stew, boiled potato's and dumplings
S: Fry up in am, roast dinner or sausage, mash and onion gravy

It's… very coeliac-friendly?

That sounds quite nice to me!

A friend was telling me last week her friend does this, same dinner plan every week, winter or summer, always the same, they even have the same shopping order every week because, well, every week is the same! Very efficient and low-waste but I'd die of boredom!

Dh family did this and mine didn't. We don't. I really don't like the idea of it but I'm not sure why as it's not like I'm knocking up some kind of incredible new meal every night.

There wasn’t a lot of variety when I was growing up and potato featured frequently. As a result I try to mix it up a bit and we have potatoes once a fortnight at the most!

Closest I’ve got to a plan was Mexican Monday for a while when the DC were younger and they liked it. But that was a rotation of tacos, nachos, burritos, enchiladas and quesadillas.

I keep a big master list of meal ideas on my phone and every week I scroll through and pick some and write my shopping list. I try to try something new every month if I can. I like the look of trepidation on my family’s faces when I serve up and say “I haven’t made this before…”

We do this! I even take it one step further I also have the same breakfast and lunch every day! Cooking and experimenting with different recipes is of no interest to me, we do change the 7 day menu from winter to summer. Honestly it makes life so much easier and also great for maintaining weight, the food we have is lovely and I don’t get bored at all.

I did this for two years. Currently we have a two-weekly meal plan.

Our youngest has very high care needs. Meal planning in that way makes shopping and cooking an easy process that doesn’t need a lot of thought.

In the time we’ve been doing it I’ve lost almost 8 stones - it’s been a massive part of it.
