Lovely furniture -but we have too much. How to get rid?

My DH and I have some(we think) lovely furniture we sadly need to let go. We would charity but there don't seem to be any charity shops around here which take furniture.
We are prepared to give it away to anyone who wants it. It's antique- a dressing table in satinwood (very pretty) and a very nice brass and black bedstead.
Our young relatives like it but it's not their style and they have small houses.
I might contact the church and ask if there's anyone in the parish who needs furniture. Who would have thought it would be so hard to give lovely things away?
We can't bear to wade into ebay! Any suggestions?

We went with ebay in the end and their donate the proceeds to charity option after similar issues. We tried Freecycle or similar but had issues with people not turning up, people wanting it delivered and not sure if it was people in need or not or people selling on. Normally goes for low price on ebay but that can go to charity of your choice and someone who appreciates furniture gets it and people we have had via there have been fine.

Are you near the NW op?

Ebay seems to work quite well for antique furniture. We've bought a few pieces there from a mix of private and professional sellers.

How far is your nearest Salvation Army or British Heart foundation as both take furniture?

Puppylucky · 22/11/2022 08:58

We have just moved and did a big furniture clear out with the British Heart Foundation. You can book on line and it's all very efficient. Two points to note - but I don't think think either apply to you. Any soft furnishings need to have a fire safety tag and the drivers are absolutely militant about checking for it. Also a big collection might be counted as a house clearance for which there is a small fee. All in all though by far the easiest way to do it in my opinion!

Facebook is your answer.

Listing on marketplace is the easiest way to sell anything but be prepared for hagglers.

You can also find a local free cycle type page where someone it will be gratefully received.

We have local free cycle groups on FB that people use for that kind of thing. "Buyer" collects. Most stuff gets snapped up.
