Worried about injury to newborn, anyone had a similar situation?

DD is 4 days old and today we packed her into the car and there was huge wind, DH was in the back seat and as I handed her to him the door swung shut and he pushed her back into my arms really forcefully by her back, worrying that the door was going to slam before he could take her. Im now stressing loads that this has damaged her in some way. I called the midwife and they were reassuring but I just wondered if anyone had had a similar situation just to ease my mind. Probably being a paranoid new mum but it’s my first time please be kind.

Day 4 is the height of the baby blues, pnd aside, and your hormones are doing a factory reboot. It's very normal to struggle with emotions at this point.

Your DH acted in her best interest to keep her safe, you have been reassured by your midwife, your newborn is unharmed (presumably not bruised in any way, otherwise I expect you would have mentioned it) and behaving normally. You can relax.

If there's any advice I can give you, it's to let this moment pass. And be gentle on yourselves. But if this heightened anxiety doesn't lift you must seek help.

Thank you all so much for replying! Still on my mind at 3am but slightly less worried after reading these!! Xx

In the nicest way, welcome to parenthood.

My eldest is 21 (today!) and I was up at 3am as he was coming home from work on his motorbike. It never ends, buckle in!

(I fell down the stairs with him when he was 4 months old, I was convinced I had broken one of his bones, rushed him to A&E where he sat grinning at the nurses and was absolutely fine).

She will be fine. But the worry is so heightened when they are so new and so small. I remember it well.

i fell over holding 6 week old dd, she was in her car seat but she went flying. I cried so much! She’s almost 5 now and lives to tell the tale.

DH fell down the stairs with DS in his arms when he was maybe a week or two old at the time. DH fell onto his back hard then slid down banging against every step holding onto DS who was bounced around a fair bit. It was so scary but the baby was fine (DH a bit bruised).

They are so incredibly robust at that age.

When I was 6 days old my dsis whacked me over the head with a stiletto shoe and an egg whisk. I’m fine!!! Dh might not agree.
Your little one will be finexxx
Congratulations by the way.

I keep thinking it has cause a spine injury. I can feel Their spine at the bottom of the back but not as you move towards the top? Is that normal?

She'll be fine. Friend of mine skidded on the patio when carrying her 3 day old and the baby flew over her head and landed on the concrete.
She was shocked and bruised. The doctor at A&E was far more concerned with her than the baby she'd brought in. The baby is a strapping teen now and absolutely fine. mum still says it was the worst moment of parenting

I am sure she is fine. If she had been hit hard enough to damage her spine, there would probably be bruising. She probably wouldn’t be able to move properly and would probably be in pain and screaming.

It’s easier said than done, but please don’t worry.
