Genuinely feel I am never going to get another job

Just got another job rejection.
I really feel now that I am never going to get another job. I'm 50, my current job is badly paid, crap experience. I have to take all my experience for my interviews from my last decent job which is now over five years ago. I go to interviews, I get good feedback but they always say ' there was somebody with just a bit more experience than you.' And these are all jobs at a much lower level than I used to work. This last rejection is the worst as there were three candidates and two jobs on offer. They said the other candidates were internal so had more relevant examples to give in their answers. And its become clear to me that there will always be someone with more experience.

I've been looking for two years now for another job. I give up. I don't know what else I can do. I don't think there is any hope for me anymore.

At least one initiative, from LinkedIn.com for your info

Tthere are I understand loads more

At Sky, we’re serious about addressing the industry-wide issue of a lack of female representation in technology and ‘Get into Tech ‘is just one of the strands of our broader D&I initiatives.

Get Into Tech is a flexible, 15-week virtual coding bootcamp that will introduce you to the basics of software development and prepare you for a career in tech.

The course is 100% free and designed to fit around your lifestyle. You don’t need any experience and you certainly don’t have to know how to code – you just need an affinity for tech and a willingness to learn.

To help guide you through this process, our Livingston team in Scotland is running a virtual information session to give the opportunity to find out more about the course.

I've had a poor experience with Women in Tech. I wouldn't recommend that route tbh. In fact one of the team were quite rude to me last month - very arrogant and unpleasant. Not ideal for those with low confidence...

I'm sorry OP - I don't know what to say but I'm also looking for a new role after redundancy and keep being rejected. It's awful isn't it.

Applying for WFH roles via LinkedIn is always mentioned on these threads. I did it last week and 950 others also applied 🤣

Sending you good luck vibes!

I don't think Tech is for me! I do not have an affinity!

but I'm also looking for a new role after redundancy and keep being rejected. It's awful isn't it Yes it is. Absolutely no confidence left. Not just no confidence, just no expectation that anyone will give me a job. Applied for one job recently I really felt I would get. I had absolutely loads of transferable experience. People always bang on about transferable experience. But I've learnt employers have absolutely no interest in transferable experience when they can get people with direct experience instead! Just feel if I could not get that job, I won't get anything. They didn't even bother to get in touch to reject me. I had to chase up their HR after a few days to get a standard impersonal 'no' response emailed to me.

I'm having a similar experience Op.. I'm 54, in a low valued and appalling paid role , but do not have the right experience for anything different despite having a good degree, skills in quite a few areas bla bla.
Basically I'm too old apparently to have any value but too young and broke to retire!

feelutterlyunemployable · 21/11/2022 16:13

@StillMedusa Thanks for sharing! At least I am not alone!

I just feel so humiliated to be honest! Like this is a shameful secret I have to keep from as many people as possible.

I really regret so many of my decisions. I used to have the life I wanted and now look at me! Living in shame and terrified of the future!
