What hints or tips from years ago have stayed with you?

Was making an omelette and got eggshell shards in the mix. I automatically used the broken shell to retrieve them, as they are drawn to the shell (but retreat from a teaspoon). This excellent tip, which I use probably once a week, comes from an old uni friend (whom it pleasantly brings to mind) and must date back to the 1980s. So many thanks to my dentist student flatmate, whom I've not seen for some years!

Anyone else got any trusted (cooking or other) tips that have stood the test of time?

If you have an electric toothbrush keep your old heads and use them on the toothbrush thingy to clean in small difficult to get to corners.

I don't understand this.

It's a bottle top opener. I bought a plastic screw-lid opener made for this. You pop the top then unscrew the lid.

If you have a buggy or pram without handles buy a roll of double sided velcro to hang bags securely.

Don't eat vanilla* wafer biscuits in bed; they might taste good at the time, but you'll wake up an hour later wondering what the itchy crumbs in your cleavage are.

*may also apply to chocolate and hazelnut wafers too.

I had buggy clips for this purpose.

Top tip: make sure baby is heavier than shopping bags clipped on to aforementioned buggy clips. 🤣

Erm no!

Keep the heads and use them in crevices, by definitely not on the toothbrush battery pack. That's just grim, unless you're never going to use that bit again!

Lefty loosey; righty tightly!

(I still don't quite understand the hanging clothes from behind tip!)

I don’t understand what bringing a towel up from behind the rail does?
It comes up more smoothly and doesn’t bunch up.
On an airer or pulley maid you can see the clothes are smooth and they’ll dry better before you lay the front down.
This method is good if you have “stunt towels” folded into thirds to show the fancy bit, not the hems. Smile
Like I say, don’t knock it till you’ve tried it.

So I tried it….

….and it’s no different from hanging over the top/front Confused

I do the egg thing too, I think I got it from 'ready, steady, cook' the old one.

Something that doesn't benefit you but makes a difference to the worker, when you go to the supermarket, put the heaviest things on the conveyor bely nearest the checkout operator.

Keep the clingfilm in the fridge, it unravels better.

My friend once said “ Your hair can make or break you” so even if I can’t be bothered with make up etc, I nearly always try to style my hair after washing.

saleorbouy · 24/11/2022 06:57

Putting Veet (or similar hair removal cream) down the plug hole to dissolve hair blockages that can't be removed by hand.
