Sugar free

Does anyone else here avoid sugar? I'm looking for sugar free foods that aren't filled with additives instead. Xylitol, stevia etc would be ok. I'm dairy- and gluten- (and joy-) free too but I find those manageable. But I have a sweet tooth and crave sugar. Can anyone recommend any brands of chocolate, cake, drinks, etc please?

I think Boots do a sugar free chocolate bar. And have seen several in health food shops. Have been recommended to eat more root veg, sweet potatoes, parsnips etc to help with that craving. Wasnt that keen on stevia, but it's ok in ginger tea. Liquorice tea or teas with liquorice have a sweetness.

This might sound crazy but look up some baby weaning recipes, I've been making bits for my little boy and banana muffins and strawberry strudels come to mind immediately that had no sugar other than maple syrup involved and im sure you could tailor to your other requirements too!

You crave sugar because it is addictive.

Would you consider trying to give it up?

I am dairy and gluten free (I find cheese the hardest to go without), but actually found it quite easy to give up added sugar, with real health benefits (a drop in my fasting blood sugar and cholesterol levels. After a week of hideous headaches I found my sugar cravings had totally gone and stayed away.

You then find sweetness in lots of berries / vegetables.

If that is not enough and you are really desperate try 90% Chocolate. It tastes amazing.

i used to be obsessed with sweet treats ( chocolate is still a guilty pleasure every now and then) but tried switching to the lower calorie versions that contained alternatives like aspartame as i thought this would be better for me. I started getting bad headaches & did some research and found out artificial sweeteners may not be what they are cracked up to be (link if your interested).
in the end i cut it all out and switched to sweetening with more natural alternatives like cinnamon & fruits. My tip would be trying to do the same and then you appreciate the sweet treats when you have them .

I have just completely cut down and the only sweet thing I'll have now is a bit of chocolate after dinner. Since cutting out sugar (including honey / jam in the morning, biscuits, cake, processed yoghurt), I don't crave sweet things or feel hungry between meals anymore.

I don't eat refined sugar at all and most of the time I avoid substitutes because I can eat too much of those. Avoid Aspartame because too much has a laxative effect. I also avoid honey but find coconut sugar fine, my body doesn't react in the same way. Try Om bar chocolate coco mylk and 60% coconut are the nicest (they are also vegan). You can order them on Amazon
