Makeup in plane hand luggage

I know this is a silly question!

Do eyeshadows/powder compacts have to go in the clear toiletries bag, or are they ok just left in hand luggage?

I actually fly fairly regularly but have always erred on the side of caution, and can’t find the actual answer anywhere, so wanted to ask what others think or do.

Thanks :-)

Yes, I put all my make up in the plastic bag, saves issues

I've been told both ways at different airports!

powders dont need to go into the bag unless you want to but its not required

I've just been away for the weekend and was told anything that was liquid or you could squeeze needed to go in. Powders and lipsticks etc stayed in my case

Look at the packaging. If the weight is given in grams it doesn't need to buy if given in ml it does.

I have never put any powders (loose or pressed) or eyeshadow in the clear plastic bag. This has never caused an issue. However depending which airport and security queue you end up at you might not not need to take anything at all out of your bag.

Agreed. Last w/e at Gatwick and Schipol we didn't have to take anything out (including tablets and iPads etc).

Thanks everyone

@redbigbananafeet that is a genius observation, thank you! I’m going to take that as my rule of thumb for toiletries and cosmetics.

All this said, my hand luggage was held for 30 minutes at Manchester airport because I was bringing back a small glass candle holder I'd bought.
