Travel insurance to France - Medically complicated

WhiteRidgeDoor · 20/11/2022 12:08

Looking to try and get travel insurance and thought has anyone with complicated medical history managed to get insurance with one of the firms that cover pre existing stuff? Anyone got any recommendations or people to avoid before I try and spend the next week of my life getting stressed about it!
have the GHIC card. That covers you to the same as what people in France pay for healthcare, any ideas how bankrupting that would be if no insurance possible?

Both my daughter and myself have health issues (cardiac and a few other things for me) - I've just gone through moneysupermarket. We are well and stable in our conditions though so not sure if that has made it easier

Thanks, all clear are quoting me £500 for a week in France. But I get that. But it says they won’t cover me if I’m waiting investigations, I’m always awaiting something!

I have MS and use a ores existing company. I can't remember the name. But. Claiming when I crashed a mobility scooter was easy.

It's so easy, that's the company I use.

AA travel insurance will cover some pre-existing conditions. I find it easier to phone them and speak to a human being rather than trying to buy online.

Have also heard of MIA, though not used them myself.

If you do end up in hospital in France and are only covered by GHIC you will probably be just fine, hospital treatment is generally covered in full and you pay some only if you are using some consultants who charge more than the government reimburses (not something that would usually be the case in an emergency).

You may have to pay extra for a private room and some extra comforts, but it is very, very reasonably priced.

try staysure

Another recommendation for Staysure. All Clear were way more expensive for our recent trip to Aus (have had cancer). I did a few quotes online as well - Sainsbury's Bank came back with a quote of £18k!

Try this it has a list of companies that offer cover

I've ended up using all clear for the last two holidays at £250 for a week it's been expensive but cheaper than some of the others on the list.
I can't get insurance through comparison sites so stuck with the high prices.

We have used Puffin insurance here for DD with pre- existing medical issues. Not had to make a claim but they were very helpful when I cocked something up setting up!

You are advised to take out travel insurance alongside your GHIC card as you are not covered for pre existing conditions and certain other treatment, I travel to France quite often as my family live there and relying entirely on a GHIC card is a mistake British tourists often make.
