Sorry-bit of a boring/complicated question-(sort of) torn between two jobs

My thread from a few weeks ago if you haven't read it and want to, not essential to what I am wanting to waffle on about however. It did turn into a very uplifting thread due to the replies and is worth a read for anyone wanting to get back into work or progress at work.

www.mumsnet.com/talk/_chat/4654170-i-am-just-about-to-email-to-turn-down-a-job-offer-for-a-job-i-actually-really-want-anyone-else-had-this-occur?page=9&reply=120706591

Anyway, I applied for a job. I really wanted it. They offered me the lowest possible salary. I couldn't make it work-less than I earn now for more hours, and involving a commute some days (as it was hybrid-remote and I am currently permanently WFH) and various other costs. One weekend a month (not every month however).

Despite this, it was exactly what I want to be doing and I was quite disappointed to have to turn it down. I want to be in tutoring/lecturing and gain a qualification for same, and that job would have done both for me (or at least that's what the description stated)!

I want to change jobs as I currently work two weekends a month and It's having a real impact on my life. Can't see my partner much, can't see friends much, constantly having to turn down breaks/days out/hobby events/family events/nights out and many other things plus I don't feel like I am using my brain at all and need a new challenge.

The company that advertised the job I turned down are now advertising the same position, different (possibly better) location and more money-enough money for me. This time however the advertisement states 'Opportunity to sometimes WFH' rather than 'Hybrid Remote', so I'd need to clarify what they mean by that.

Question one is-Can I apply again? It's the same company. I suppose no harm in trying? Would you?I am thinking of applying with a cover note stating that I was a successful applicant for the same position recently.

My second question is-another job involved now-before the advert for the aforementioned one went up I applied for said job last week and they rang me yesterday to say I've got it. However I told them I'd get back to them over the weekend because...

-Fewer hours than I do now, less money, (albeit more pro rata for a fulltime position) same salary as the job I turned down offered me. It's not what I wanted to be doing but a step up from what I do now. As well as what I do now I'd be in charge of dealing with the next steps from that, be in a higher position.
Also
-No weekends
-Four day 8 hours per day week.
-WFH permanently
-Private medical package (same as the one I get now)
-Professional body membership paid saving me nearly £200 per year....
-Other subsided costs associated with my career meaning I save £40 a month.

I want to go for the job involving the thing I really want to get into-I'd be training staff who want to do what I do now and I do really want to get into tutoring/lecturing but I don't have QTS-the job description states they'd put me through it.
The other job is probably 'safer' and would give me much more free time but..

I have a feeling I've over-thought this Grin
Thanks if you got this far.

Go for the job you want. The sideways step seems a waste of time.

Were you the poster who didn’t know if they could ask for more money? Did you do that? Anyway yes you can reapply, just adjust your cover note obviously, and don’t be too unrealistic about sometimes having to come into the office l.

You can reapply, of course. You can accept the job offer and still apply. Good luck!

Thanks-yes it was and I did, they told me no chance (not quite in those words) but they seemed rather disappointed in their email to me, as if they thought I'd snap it up.

Thanks for the good luck! :)

Aha - well then they are familiar with you, so that will help.

It sounds like the change in the job grade is to trigger more money in their system, so that means they realise they were being unrealistic the first time round (they obviously realised there was no point just re advertising).

Go back to that thread and sell yourself hard! Ie think like a bloke would. The only thing I would say is be as open as you can to some time in the office, as a lot of companies are struggling to get people out of the WFH mindset, and it really can be a problem.

It's been a long process but I decided to go for the one I want. As was discussed in the other thread, the company sound ominous and it may be rather unprofessional/disorganised but I really think it could be a step up the ladder and I haev always wanted to teach (adults) so it should be a good start.

It was a bloody difficult process because they couldn't give me a start date and my notice period where I am is 3 months! That's so long-I've done more senior roles that only asked for a month.

Anyway I spoke to my boss who said they can't force me to work it. The new company then said they wanted me in less than a month-all the while I couldn't yet hand my notice in because the new job hadn't given me certain details I required and my old job still wanted to talk to me about other things to do with my leaving period etc.

It looks as though I can do the training for the new one part time and still give some hours to my old job part time as a compromise. It feels like it might be a bit of a nightmare but I am going to do it. What's the worst that can happen I must be mad but I am excited as well as apprehensive/worried.

I take people's points about WFH. Although I have become quite lazy, I think it might give me a bit of a boost to be 'doing' something again that will require clothes and face to face contact.
