Do men listen better to men

I’ve experienced it in my job. Have you? Interested to know if I’m imagining things.

I think there’s research which confirms this is the case. It’s a well known phenomenon that a woman will say something and will be passed over, then the man will say the same idea/comment and everybody’s all over them saying how great it is.

Oh 100%. I notice this frequently in both my partner and my dad. A great example is my partner wanting me to formula feed- until a MAN he admired in his work told him how great breastfeeding is and suddenly he's a breastfeeding advocate.

Oh goodness yes. At home and at work. Awful, but sadly true.

I honestly started to question my own advice as male clients were just arguing back with me then suddenly a man explained it to them and hey presto they start lecturing ME on it

Of course they do. Standard. Deeply frustrating.

Depends on the man. DH listens more to women. He often doesn't get on with men.

And is a well known phenomenon…

Do men listen better to men

Yes. When I was younger and worked in a very technical part of my field I used to find engineers couldn't hear me or immediately dismissed my suggestions.

My male colleague and I used to amuse ourselves by him repeating verbatim what I said (which was strangely comprehensible then).
Alternatively, (he was junior to me), if the (inevitably male) contract engineers actually looked to him for verification of what I said, would look puzzled and say "Well yes, it's like she said. She's the boss" (or expert, depending on the context).

20 years later, in a more senior role, I still find myself saying "Please could you say it - they seem to hear you" to another much younger male colleague.

It seems I went seamlessly from pretty little girl (I'm small) to invisible, inaudible older woman! Grr.

Yes and it’s shit.

Although there have been two exceptions I have seen in life, their mothers or women at work they fancy. Then that woman’s word is the law.
