Can any Jewish Mumsnetters give some ideas for gifts? Are vouchers OK?
I heard that multiples of a certain number (?) are good.
Also to the event, for dh, should he wear a suit to the party? He isn't going to the ceremony as he will look after the DC then.

Vouchers are fine. You can give multiples of £18 depending on budget. But I’d not worry too much about sticking to that.

I don’t think DH needs a suit to wear to the party. For synagogue that would be fine but think it could well be too formal for a party. There’s often dancing and it should be fun so I’d say smart casual and to be comfy. A shirt and trousers should be fine. The last batmizvah I went in most of the girls had dresses with trainers so they could have a good time on the dance floor.

Vouchers or cash / cheque are greatly appreciated.

Suits are unnecessary. Most kids wear trousers, a cool t-shirt and trainers.

Top tip for the ceremony! You'll be given sweets or chocolates. Don't eat them! They're for throwing at the bar mitzvah boy.

Last year we gave money, which is very normal, and I adopted a donkey from the West Bank for the barmitzvah boy

We have cash in a multiple of 18

DH wore trousers and shirt and a casual jacket - no tie
DS made a speech so he wore a suit with a waistcoat
