Is there a cheap way to get a new boiler?

If you're not on benefits / low income?

Shock break today. It's so old, it was coming, but I've been quoted >£3k + VAT 😭😭😭

Nothing wrong with getting a few quotes. You could look at a 0% credit card so you have longer to pay it.
I would get a decent boiler if you can.

Yeah, rent your house out to someone in receipt of benefits for 6 months and get a grant

Frazzled2207 · 17/11/2022 19:26

im sure cheaper is available but we have been quoted similar

i think it’s worth getting as efficient a boiler as you can afford as it will make a difference to ongoing bills

Not sure if this is possible where you are but we were advised to look for a refurbished/reconditioned boiler if money is tight (these are 300 instead of 3k where we are, not uk). Maybe ring around a few independent gas engineers around you?

The bigger companies will do interest free credit.

British Gas quoted me about £500 more than Homeserve (who I know have a bad rep but I’ve never had any problems with them) so make sure you get multiple quotes.

You might be better getting a quote from a certified gas engineer rather than a big company like British gas.
They might be able to get one for you at cost price and will probably be cheaper for installation as well - this is what ours did.

My dad needed a new one when his 50 year old one finally packed in.

Got loads of quotes even from.independants but in the end went with British Gas only because their guarantee policy was so good and a call out within 24 hours plus free homecare cover

Boxt was the cheapest when DM needed one. Got a Bosch for about £1700 fitted. You can just get a quote through the website with no obligation. Couldn't fault the service.

mobear · 17/11/2022 19:54

Another vote for Boxt.

FayCarew · 17/11/2022 19:56

I got one through a gas fitter. I can't remember how much it was but it wasn't four figures

LBOCS2 · 17/11/2022 20:44

That seems a lot for a new boiler, we bought two in 2019 and they were both less than £2k for Worcester Bosch ones. That's a big jump if it's the going rate.

NannyGythaOgg · 17/11/2022 20:48

Another vote for boxt

My work colleague told us about getting one for free via a green energy thing I was totally skeptical. My mum and dad then got one for free as did my gran. I’m not on a low income but because I have a child and receive the £80 odd is it child benefit it meant I qualified. However my floor space wasn’t enough for the insulation that had to be installed underfloor in order to get it for free. I did however get it on very low credit which I took for 5 years. Was annoyed that everyone else got one for free except me lol but might be worth a try. Rules like boiler has to be more than x years old etc

roarfeckingroarr · 18/11/2022 19:47

@makemeamum it's actually a BTL and I rent to a woman and her daughter who claim benefits. Great idea!
