The new "You might also like..." section on mn. Prepare for constant revival of old threads

@mnhq what is the purpose of "You might also like..." section that links people to threads that haven't been posted on for (at least) a month or two, or maybe even longer? Do you really want people to keep bringing up old threads. It is going to kill conversation and the natural flow of the forum.

i generally like what mn does here but i just dont get the point of bringing up old topics. why???

I've noticed it, and that it brings them in from a range of topics.

Perhaps it's useful in reminding people that dedicated boards do exist...so if you're reading a post on Christmas in chat, there's links to Christmas thread in Christmas. Getting more engagement with those boards and reducing aibu/chat posts 'for traffic'.

But there should be a limit to the time frame of threads it can bring...otherwise its ripe for zombie resurrection.

Agree!

It suggests really old threads and then gives you the little box saying this thread hasn’t been posted on for a while. But not until you’ve read the whole thread of course and are just about to type you’re fabulously insightful and perfectly crafted reply.

It diminishes the interest of the site by pointing out how few topics we all discuss.
‘ignorance is bliss’ , if you don’t know your life is just on rinse and repeat.
