We are staying in the airport hotel opposite airport.
2 min walk to door
Our flight is at 8am
What time would you get there?

It does very much depend on the airport and I don’t know how busy Newcastle is. But if you’re going with a budget airline I’d say 5 to be on the safe side. Only because their check in/bag drops can be ridiculous.

Look at it this way. You could have an extra hour of sleep but then kick yourselves if something goes wrong. You’re going on holiday so plenty of time to relax at your destination.

6am

Me and my flight anxiety?....4am! Would rather wait in the airport than hotel!

I'd get there at 5.30. Drop bags, get through security and have breakfast in the airport.

windoesfloorsdoors · 16/11/2022 21:17

We are flying with jet2
Set alarm for half 4 ..gonna head over 5-5.30 and have a breakfast if we can
There's only 2 planes taking off the same time so should be okay

6.15-6.30, but I’m no faff, don’t want a coffee, don’t want to shop. Happy going straight to the gate, grabbing a bottle of drink from one of the smaller kiosks and getting on. If you’ve got kids and loads of bags, will all need 3 trips to the loo and a sit down Starbucks then maybe closer to 5.45-6

6am

When we flew with Jet2 they offered twilight bag drop. So we just went straight through to security.
This was Manchester. We allowed 3 hours before flight.

Claudia84 · 16/11/2022 21:23

6am. And that would leave me enough time for breakfast the other side. You only need to go to the gate when it changes to boarding and it's not a big airport.

IntentionalError · 16/11/2022 21:27

For a 0800 NCL-ACE flight in low season, 2 hours will be plenty of time, so I would arrive in the terminal at 0600. If I was travelling in peak season, I would allow longer.

clareykb · 16/11/2022 21:28

We fly often from Newcastle and its generally pretty quick for security etc although recently we have had issues with luggage taking ages on return. I'd say 2 hours before would be fine. It's fairly compact so not a long walk to various different gates etc.

I would rather be 3 hours early than 5 mins late so as early as you can op

My sentiment exactly!

We are going to lanzarote
Need to check in and drop bags

and go through security, and go through passport control if you have british passports.

If you're flying from a very large busy airport with staffing problems ( very common ) , security and PPC can involve very long queues..

Your airline will advise how much time to allow; believe them.

shinynewapple22 · 16/11/2022 22:32

There may be a danger that getting there too early (5 am) means that you may hit longer queues as IME so many flights leave around 7 am. Possibly you might be better to wait until 6 - but I would hate for you to miss your flight!

Last time we flew (end of September) we paid to fast track security - it was only about £5 pp and we literally zipped though . I think we had allowed 3 hours as we had had horrendous queues the previous time.

windoesfloorsdoors · 17/11/2022 07:02

We made it through on time just waiting for a gate
Thanks everyone

Happy Holidays

Can you check if they are doing an evening bag drop off? We did this in Summer, flying with BA from Gatwick but I saw people with Easy Jet boarding passes as well.

It made life so much easier in the morning, straight to security and we were airside in a matter of 15 minutes.
