I have a mouth full of ulcers and an ear infection which he gave me antibiotics for.

I eat most things and try to eat well, but could probably up my fruit and veg!
Any good ideas from you lovely lot.....food, drink, supplements etc

Vitamin pill daily. Vitamin D too. Extra vitamin c for a few days. Lots of fresh air and a little bit of exercise, even if it's just walking.

Realistnotpessimist · 16/11/2022 18:11

Get some salt on the end of your finger or on a cotton bud and dab each ulcer. Might sting but definitely helps get rid of them I've found or so a salt water mouth rinse.

mizu · 16/11/2022 18:12

Sleep! I really try and get 8-9 hours a night which I know lots of people can't do.

Relax time, rest

Sleep, water, multivit / mineral, no booze, cut down sugar, gentle exercise, resting when you feel tired (distinct from sleeping). Plus looking after yourself as you would a poorly and overtired small child - making a cosy nest, hot water bottle, gentle comfort telly / books.

mizu · 16/11/2022 18:12

Yes to hot water bottle and books / TV

midgetastic · 16/11/2022 18:14

What's your current routine ?
Sleep?
Exercise?
Alcohol?
Working hours?
Stress factors ?

If you are run down because of too much stress vitamins and diet won't make that much impact

Stunningscreamer · 16/11/2022 18:15

Are you getting enough sleep?
Are you spending too much time looking after other people and not focusing on yourself?
Do you stop thinking about work at the end of the day?
Do you treat yourself? This is different for everyone. It could be having a bath, going for a country walk, going to a heavy metal concert, meeting your mates, doing a run, having a massage, whatever it is that is pampering for you, that you especially set aside time for.
Sometimes I go out on my own to the cinema or theatre so that I don't have to fit into other people's timetables. I have even stayed overnight in a nice hotel, so I can totally focus on me. It was bliss. Maybe your idea of hell, but the point is you need to indulge yourself a bit.

Spudina · 16/11/2022 18:16

As everyone else has said. Good sleep, some gentle exercise (woodland walking always does me good) healthy food, top up with a good multivitamin. Make sure you take C and D for immunity. B vitamins great for energy. Hope you feel better soon.

BuryingAcorns · 16/11/2022 18:17

With mouth ulcers: avoid bananas, get a toothpaste that has no sodiumn laurel sulphate in as both these things aggravate bananas.

Take iron supplements (Feroglobin or Floradix capsules are best as they don't have nasty side effects.)
Take Vitamin D in spray form - it's absorbed better by the body in this way than in tablet form.
Multivitamin too.

Passionflower supplements are also very good for stress.

Do some gentle yoga by Adriene and meditation to relax your body and mind morning and night - 5-10 minutes of each.

Salt baths are good. Lavender or eucalyptus epsom salts and a long soak.

If you survive on tea and coffee swap some of your coffees for fresh roast decaff or green tea and some of your teas for fruit or herb tisanes - there are some lovely mixes out there.

Get out into nature. Not the best time of year to try but even a short walk in the woods, sheltered from most wind and rain, just looking at the golden leaves, bright moss, funghi, listening to birdsong is good for the soul.

Eat a daily egg. Helps prevent and heal mouth ulcers

SallyWD · 16/11/2022 18:19

I'm very prone to viruses/illnesses and get run down easily. What helps me is:

-Daily vitamin pill, omega 3, high dose vitamin D and C.
-Try and sleep 8 hours whenever possible
-10,000 steps a day, often more
-plenty of fluids
-lots of fruit and veg, cut out processed food and avoid excess sugar
-take time to rest/destress.

WaddleAway · 16/11/2022 18:20

I am in a similar position but there’s not much I can do to change it. I have a disabled child who doesn’t sleep so I only manage 4-5 hours a night at most and that’s the biggest issue. I’m constantly ill and have recurrent cold sores and ulcers. Sleep is the key.

Shouldbedoing · 16/11/2022 18:21

Start on the live yogurt/actimel if you're on antibiotics, especially if you're planning to gorge yourself on fruit and veg. Replenishes the good bacteria in your gut

socialgoat · 16/11/2022 18:24

Did the Dr not do bloods to try and find out if you're deficient in anything? Little help telling you you're run down but then not bothering to investigate further!

What was their medical advice?

glasshole · 16/11/2022 18:31

I take vitamin d and k2. Vitamin c, b12 and a general supplement. I eat yogurt and berries for breakfast, lots soup with veg in it for lunch and whatever I fancy for dinner. I make sure I get plenty of sleep and drink 3 + litres of water a day. I have two hobbies, one is a sport that requires intense focus and I find that gives me a wonderful clear head plus it's outdoors and in a woodland and it's just boastful to see the seasons changing. It gives me a real boost doing it twice a week. I also do a craft hobby that brings me joy. For me the most important thing has been putting myself first and being able to say no to requests.

If it's the first time this happened, why would they? Everyone feels run down sometimes.

Thatnameistaken · 16/11/2022 18:38

Have you had bloods taken? You could be deficient in something that would be highlighted in a blood test

peridito · 16/11/2022 18:41

Run down is hardly a medical term ,what does it actually mean ? I'm guessing "very run down" means something to the GP .But I'm surprised that no blood test was ordered .

I eat well and healthily, do not drink alcohol or smoke, plus take some vitamin and mineral supplements.

This! Salt is a good antiseptic. A salt water mouthwash will help to clear the ulcers too. Swill and spit it out.
Salt water gargle will help a sore throat.
A half pint of boiled water with teaspoonful of salt and allowed to cool.

Verbena87 · 16/11/2022 18:47

Sleep more.

share the load at home and work - where can you delegate to reduce stress/responsibilities? Do that.

spend time with loved ones/friends who look after you and make you laugh.

The rest is secondary to these, I think.

PermanentTemporary · 16/11/2022 18:47

B vitamins. I find a couple of days into eating marmite on granary toast and scrambled or boiled eggs and things improve significantly.

Yy to sleep.

Yes an aggravated banana is a scary sight.
