When all I see is people in bars and restaurants?

...

...

... just kidding!

I thought I'd use up today's quota before someone else posted it, AGAIN.

Haha, I had steam coming out of my ears when I read the thread heading. Thank you for not being serious. Not sure I could stand once again reading about the pure lack of awareness of some people on MN. But you made me smile, so thank you

TortugaRumCakeQueen · 16/11/2022 11:56

It's all relative though, isn't it? Me and DH are not affected very much, because :

DH works FT on a good salary

I work for myself on a very good salary

Our children are adults and have left home

Our mortgage is only £236pm, and almost paid off

Long story short, we can still afford holidays and meals out. But we are older (53 & 50) and ever since I can remember, this age group seem to be better off than people in their 20's and 30's who have only just started on the property ladder, and who may have small children and nursery fees etc.

ImNotHeartlessHonest · 16/11/2022 11:56

Mission accomplished!

But yeah, thought I'd get in before the daily idiot.

And this is speaking as someone who was sat in a restaurant with friends at the weekend, thinking fuck me, why did I agree to this.

Sure. But there are DAILY disingenuous threads by people claiming to have no idea that there is a CoL issue.

This is preempting that bullshit, not claiming that everyone is affected.

Nooooooo, just no. Read the post, read the room, read other COL threads and comment there instead ffs. It's called sarcasm, tongue in cheek, having a joke.. you know,

loudbatperson · 16/11/2022 11:59

Grin I opened this to read the pile on, but this is even better.

defi · 16/11/2022 11:59

Don't play with my feelings like that :)

Fair enough, can't say I've seen many of those threads. I definitely can see how much products have gone up in supermarkets etc, how could you not? It's shocking really.

socialmedia23 · 16/11/2022 12:04

We took SIL and MIL to a restaurant over the weekend. It was packed, SIL has Aspergers and is not good at waiting and was going to walk off. Thankfully we were seated in the nick of time.

The reason why it was so packed- it was the cheapest restaurant in the vicinity. The other restaurants were mostly empty.

socialmedia23 · 16/11/2022 12:05

So its all relative... I do wonder if the top range restaurants are suffering. Or maybe they are unaffected as their customers are wealthy.

I would imagine expensive, non luxury chain restaurants would be the most affected.

Imnotswallowingthat · 16/11/2022 12:08

However much it is, the cost of living is still better than the alternative....

CopOut27 · 16/11/2022 12:09

Thanks for the chuckle OP and we can live in hope we’ve avoided todays “is it only me?” threads.

However I fear you have less than 30 minutes before someone comes along telling you it’s not funny and how they saw someone scraping chewing off the payment this morning and putting it in their mouths and we should all be ashamed and people are allowed to vent etc.

CopOut27 · 16/11/2022 12:10

*pavement

Dontbelieveawordofit · 16/11/2022 12:10

Seriously? OP take it down before people start spouting about people having full baskets in Aldi or being able to afford not to go to food banks at all and make the COL a conspiracy theory. Read all that on at least 5 different threads yesterday.

I know this is a lighthearted thread, but the people posting this rubbish in seriousness don't need any more encouragement.

So, the previous inhabitants of my house got a fancy food catalogue. As in, £1500 Christmas hampers fancy.

I LOVE the catalogue. Ultimate food porn. Highlight of the day when it arrives, and I get to pore over the ridiculously expensive food.

But this year, they haven't printed prices on the pages - they're all in a list at the back, and they apologise about not being able to commit to the prices - check online for the latest.

It's surprising how many tone deaf people there are out there that do express this often.... they live in a bubble

JorisBonson · 16/11/2022 12:37

It's affecting me massively. I've had to drop the live in housekeeper to 60 hours a week and my Faberge egg is on eBay.

gogohmm · 16/11/2022 12:43

I agree @TortugaRumCakeQueen

We really aren't affect in the same way, very similar situation to you. We are conscious that us spending money particularly in hospitality is vital for other peoples incomes. Anecdotally it is now easier to get into restaurants here, you used to have to book a few days ahead but now I've phoned just a couple of hours ahead.

PortiasBiscuit · 16/11/2022 12:44

Just as well somebody can afford to eat out, all those people in the hospitality industry need their wages paid.

Dontbelieveawordofit · 16/11/2022 13:08

Oh ffs.
