I am having both done on Monday and would be grateful for the experiences of others - especially if they are positive!

Where are you having them done? It is more usual in the UK to have one done at a time.

My partner had his done. Brilliant, he chose lenses for distance vision and now uses specs only for close up work like reading. Op went well, no issues other than some scar tissue 2 years later causing black floaters, which were zapped using lasers.

It was a very positive experience all round. It was done at ghe Oxford Eye hospital.

Hope yours goes well Monday.

I took my 86 year old father in law to have his done at the local eye hospital clinic. He was fine, perfectly able to see far better straight away. I said after, I would take him home, but he wanted to stay out as he could see everything clearly first time in ages. He had eye drops for a week. He had no problems at all, local anaesthetic all done in under 30 minutes.

My 83 year old grandpa had one eye done 2 weeks ago. He chose to have an overnight hospital stay instead of outpatient treatment. The procedure lasted 10 minutes, he didn't feel anything. Had to wear a patch until the next day. Then eyedrops for 3 weeks and that's it.

He was very very happy with the results. He has better sight than my parents now, especially at a distance.

He's getting his other eye dine soon and expecting to need reading glasses (he chose monofocal lenses). He had almost zero sight in the eye that was operated on, so the difference it's made has been amazing.

Cataract surgery is very common and very safe.

All sounds good!

Apparently, it is not unusual now to have both done together, as the statistics show that there is no detriment in doing this. They scrub up again between eyes.
I am very short-sighted so have opted for distance vision and will then continue to wear varifocals full time to cover reading and music - I have worn glasses all my life so that is not a problem - but it will hopefully reduce some of the blur and glare - night driving is a challenge at the moment ...... and I live in the middle of nowhere.
