Ds headaches, doctor fobbing me off

My ds is 7 and getting daily headaches. He has for a few months and I've contacted the dr 3 times about it so far. Each time I'm given a reason such as he may be coming down with a virus , dehydration, eye test or lack of sleep.

Each time I've done what the dr had advised but ds is still suffering.

I have another appointment for today and wondered if anyone can advise me on what I can ask the dr to do about this.
Last time the dr asked me what I wanted him to do and stupidly I didn't know.

I want this appointment to be more productive.

Have you had his eyes tested?

Theunamedcat · 16/11/2022 08:25

I'm assuming the eye test was OK?

Does it happen during school time and not in holidays? School anxiety can be a real issue but so can constantly having to focus on a whiteboard under fluorescent lighting causing eye strain

Referral to neurology if your GP is clueless. Daily headaches in children are not normal., if things like eyesight, dehydration etc have been ruled out.
Good luck.

Eye test was fine.

It's more frequent when he's at school.

Can DS tell you whereabouts on his head the headaches are? Does he see anything different visually or feel sick or dizzy at all during them? I'd get his eyes tested if you haven't already.

Ask for a referral to a paediatrician. Don’t be fobbed off, this isn’t normal and it needs investigation.

Chances are it's the school environment eye strain is horrendously painful

you are right to be worried about the headaches. I would continue to ask for hospital referral. Please do check for any nausea and projectile vomiting too. Do remind your gp that you would like them to investigate this further.

Being fobbed off is so irritating isn't it? So, why not just say that. "I feel that I've been really fobbed off in the last 3 appointments, so I'd like some action, referral."
