A positive symptom of ageing!

No one in real life is interested in this and possibly you won’t be either, but I need to tell you nevertheless how THRILLED I am to have developed wavy hair in my late 40s. All my life I longed for curly hair instead of the straight, heavy, can’t hold a curl hair I had. But now, thanks to peri menopause I assume, I have wavy hair! And thanks to MN I have learned some helpful ways to take care of it and make the most of the waves I have.

I could live without the sore joints, the anxiety, the sagging, but I would almost take all of these just to have waves. Almost.

Thank you MN for allowing me to share this. And for the hair tips.

Funnier enough my hair is better now than when I was young. It wasn’t thin but now I have a lot more hair (menopause over ten years ago).

Wow that’s interesting…I don’t think I have ever heard of that happening before (which isn’t to say it isn’t fairly common. I just don’t think the ‘benefits’ of menopause are talked about).

Thanks for listening to my hair joy.

OP,

I've had the same thing happen too.
My hair was always thick, dark brown/black and straight.
At age 46, I gave up coloring my hair as it was 70% white. It started to lose its thickness and it started to get a wave in it.

I'm now 52 and my hair is 95% white (not grey, shocking white), it's thinner but I have ringlet curls! I suppose I shouldn't be shocked as both my parents had curly hair but I have no idea how to style it.

Growing older has definitely had it's interesting moments.

Your hair sounds lovely elp30! I dye mine as it’s such a mousey colour since I had children (used to be blonde) but only have a few whites so far. I would love to have silver/white hair but all the women in my family seem to develop salt and pepper mouse which isn’t very exciting.

I know what you mean about not knowing how to style it. I have had to buy all new products for curly hair, having spent a lifetime using normal shampoo/conditioner and very little else. I love being able to wash my hair with sulphate/paraben free products, put curl cream in and go to bed with damp hair then wake up with lovely waves. It looks crap the next day most of the time though. No idea what to do on day 2.

Happy to report having lost most of my body hair. Eyebrows tattooed back on, no need to wax any other part of me. Definite hurrah.

God that’s wonderful - when can I expect this to happen to me? At the moment it’s all systems go in the hair department, like my body is preparing for an ice age.
