Really random. Help me identify these sweets from my youth.

Trying to explain these sweets I used to eat to DH. He's got a box of Turkish Delight and the smell and icing sugar is reminding me of these hard boiled sweet things i would eat as a kid.

They were called travel sweets I think, and were in a round tin with swirly writing on. They came in icing sugar. They are NOT Simkins travel sweets. I think the tin was a gold or brass colour.

Not much to go on, but maybe someone else can remember them!

You can still get them in service stations

Is that the round things that they have in the urinals?

I saw them when taking my boy in…

And some pharmacies - I used to love the Barley Sugar!

Can anyone remember what they were called? Google throws up Simkins as the brand, but the picture isn't right.

Ahhhh! I've got it! Smith Kendon! I'll have to see if I can find some for sale.

RedDwarfGarbagePod · 14/11/2022 21:20

Great minds, yes! Although yours can apparently spell and punctuate, which is more than can be said for mine!

NigelHargreaves · 14/11/2022 21:21

I think they have them in Home Bargains.

ChineAndWheeseParty · 14/11/2022 21:21

Oh god, these bring back memories of travel sickness Envy

DeanStockwooooo · 14/11/2022 21:21

Yes you can get them in service stations , there are loads of types , mostly boiled sweets with icing sugar dusting but you can get jelly beans , liquorice torpedoes, mint imperials etc
Which ones do you remember ?

ScarlettOHaraHamiltonKennedyButler · 14/11/2022 21:22

I loved these during morning sickness with my first pregnancy, my Mum and Dad always keep a tin in the car.

BadgerFace · 14/11/2022 21:25

Now I need to buy some of these - my grandmother always had a tin in her glovebox and it’s such a memory of my childhood… I went through a phase of buying them in my twenties and I think I’m about to get sucked back in after reading your thread!!

Definitely the fruity boiled sweet ones. My dad always had a tin in the glove box. My favourite bit was eating the icing sugar 🤣

I think The Range stock them

CheeseIsMyPatronus · 14/11/2022 21:38

Tavener's fruit drops - a circular tin with icing sugar always in my Dad's glove box for long trips.

Hoofgobling · 17/11/2023 18:36

They were Smith Kendon travel sweets. It seems impossible to get hold of them now :(
