It's a staple right?

I feel sorry for the 1600 people about to lose their jobs. Not sure that's for laughing about

HowdyDudey · 15/11/2022 07:27

I didn’t even know this. Have just got a few coats from there and really like them. Sad for the people who now have uncertain times ahead.

ZenNudist · 15/11/2022 07:36

I think the brand will be bought out by m&s, next or worse, Mike Ashley. Quality will decline. It will no longer be what makes it joules. Stores will close which is a shame because its a treat for me when I go somewhere naice with a joules store. I usually buy something.

I was shocked to see a £95 Christmas jumper in there. Blatantly priced to get 30% off.

All their prices like boden are priced to sell at a "discount" and then like DFS have constant sales.

I'm a "fan" but I don't like flower prints stripes or frumpy cuts so the only things I've bought for a while are the outerwear or kids stuff and an occasional leopard/animal print item they have been phasing in. I'd have kept buying if they'd reduced the quantity of splotchy, oversize floral prints and NOONE wants stripes any more. Done to death.

FixundFoxi · 15/11/2022 09:00

What 's a 'frumpy cut' ?

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 15/11/2022 09:05

I’m very sad for those who will be worrying about job losses. It’s a horrible position to be in.

The brand itself, though...I had a very nice trench coat/rain mac from them a few years ago, a blouse about 10 years ago, and one lovely dress that I ended up selling because it was one size too small and I could never fit into it. I’ve also got a tweed blazer from them. But as many others have said, the pricing was off, and there are other brands who do it better with better quality. In the past several years I’ve mainly browsed every year in case there was a little something I could get for the office Secret Santa/stocking fillers. That’s not enough to sustain a brand.

The people who are affected personally, of course it’s a dismal time for them and they have all my sympathy.

LadyEloise1 · 15/11/2022 09:07

I like Joules. I have a Joules coat and it has kept me warm and dry. I preferred it on me to its Seasalt equivalent.
I also have a Joules Golightly waterproof packable jacket which is great.
The stripes and flowers are fun.
However it will be no fun for the 1600 or so people who will lose their jobs.
Or the high streets which will have another empty unit. Sad

Being sneery about Joules and Seasalt and Boden and Fat Face is a rite of passage on MN - check out the other thread running on it today.

So true.
Then go to the whatimwearing todaythreads
It's today I'm wearing an H&M vest, Primarkacrylic bobbled cardigan and skinny jeans.
Cue omg you look AMAZING

Sad for Joules, I've got loads of their lovely, soft sweatshirts and brushed cotton PJs.

MintJulia · 15/11/2022 09:11

No, I don't think so. I've been on MN for 15 years and I don't think I've ever bought anything in Joules. Overpriced flowery striped sweat shirts are not me.

I'm sure we'll cope 😀

AppleCrumbleRumble · 15/11/2022 09:13

While I do like Seasalt I think MN flavour of the day (years?) is Cos, Arkeet and Hush. They stopped liking Joules for so long now, ten years maybe?

AppleCrumbleRumble · 15/11/2022 09:13

Oh and Uniqlo is also popular. One I never understood is Mint Velvet.

Luckymummytoone · 15/11/2022 09:14

Oh my god I didn’t know this!! Love joules 😭😭😭😭

RebulahConundrum · 15/11/2022 09:18

Nooo I really like joules! Stereotypes can get fucked, like what you like.

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 15/11/2022 09:22

Yes quite, there’s no need for either camp to sneer at the other.

badgermushrooms · 15/11/2022 09:45

It was never my style but was one of the few 'proper' clothes shops left in my local shopping centre - we've already lost debenhams, H&M, Zara, Oasis, Warehouse, Dotty P... I really hate clothes shopping online but it's now either that or a 60 mile round trip.

FourChimneys · 15/11/2022 09:51

Don't think I've ever been in one so it won't affect me personally.

What were their clothes like? I've read that they were like Seasalt but not been in one of those either.

A shame that women will lose jobs though.

Hoppinggreen · 15/11/2022 09:53

Not bought anything from there since DD outgrew the kids stuff years ago but it’s such a shame for the staff who will lose their jobs

SquirrelSoShiny · 15/11/2022 09:57

TolkiensFallow · 15/11/2022 06:52

I had become very Garden Centre Fashion of late though so what do they expect

Yes this is the only place I ever see it now.

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 15/11/2022 09:59

Oh I tell a lie! I have a beautiful cashmere jumper from there too. You could get the odd gem.

Herejustforthisone · 15/11/2022 10:10

I liked Joules old field coats and their socks are nice. Everything else was very ageing.

DeePlume · 15/11/2022 14:54

I love joules coats. I have long arms and the sleeves on their coats always come up perfectly!

I hope they survive!

Pootle40 · 16/11/2022 21:31

Lol I like joules, fat face, hush, mint velvet !

LynetteScavo · 16/11/2022 21:43

About 15 years ago Joules was fashionable- their clothes no longer are, as they haven't kept up with the times. DH commented yesterday that there are only so many flowery wellies a person needs (I don't have any lol - I haven't bought from Joules in years)

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 16/11/2022 21:46

Meh, MN will be fine, looking at this thread only getting less than 50 comments in 2 days.

Nitgel · 16/11/2022 21:52

I will miss joules and used the st albans branch. I especially liked their jewellery, lovely colourful enamel bangers and was sad when they stopped selling those. Also gave a few leather bags that wear well. It's shit on the high st. I am thinking Jigsaw might be next.
