If you were booking a last minute ( now) trip away for Christmas, where would you go? ?

Adult DC’s have their own plans, just shared. A chance for us to do something else, just for us.

Booking now isn't ideal, but ideas and links welcome.

Definitely somewhere warm ooohhhh the thought of being away over Christmas sounds lovely

maroonhaze · 14/11/2022 20:52

How into Christmas are you?

I'd probably go for a hot holiday somewhere but if you're really into Christmas then go somewhere snowy where they go all out.

What do you like doing?
Skiing?
Surfing?
Shopping?

CoveredInCobwebs · 14/11/2022 20:53

Anywhere snowy, in complete contradiction to the PP Grin

LivingOnAPrayerYes · 14/11/2022 20:56

If I was going to go away, I'd make it worth it. So I'd go all out for a totally different Christmas (i.e. warm and all inclusive) in the Carribean.

C1N1C · 14/11/2022 21:06

Anywhere with nice Christmas markets...

Prague
Brussels
Vienna
Baden-Baden
Helsinki
Bruges
Bratislava

Those are my favourites bit really anywhere in Austria, Germany, Switzerland or Luxembourg :)

Lulanna · 14/11/2022 21:27

Some great ideas, thank you. I don't know whether I want ‘Christmas’ or an ‘anti- Christmas’. Something easy in busy lives and something that I enjoy rather than spending it missing my kids.

Funny isn't it, I've waited for this to happen, kids to make their own plans, a chance to opt out of all of the family expectations and slog that Christmas can feel. Now there is an opportunity, there is a tiny bit of sadness that I don't want to overtake what could be.

More details please, not much time... 😀Help me to stay excited. Help me with some vacancies.

Not so sure about flying tbh. Only if I really have to...

JamSandle · 14/11/2022 22:09

Boston and Maine

userxx · 14/11/2022 22:10

I'd go to one of the Canary Islands, a glass of fizz on the beach on Christmas Day is the way forward for me.

Wtafis · 14/11/2022 22:13

I would go here grand hotel in Eastbourne. It’s stunning, food is excellent. Walk along seafront cocktails and more great food
iys expensive

I would use Skyscanner- UK to everywhere, either for a specific date or whole month. You can also narrow down to more local airports. See where it throws up for cheap flights and then do a bit of research. We have had some great holidays this way. Loved Romania which we booked one year because we got £10 flights each way, transylvania is stunning and even found skiing. I love researching and booking independently though.

🤷‍♀️@Imnothereforthegiggles

Please move on if this isn't for you.
MN is awful at the moment, do you get a kick out of being horrible?

I am putting a brave face on this, underneath, as I said, now that my opportunity is here, I want to make the most of it without missing my kids and our familiar Christmas. I've had a sleepless night working through this, thanks for kicking me when I'm just a little bit down this morning.

I often come on here, to helpfully share links for either places I've visited or great places that I know locally. It is called ‘support’.

Travel agents....where...doesn’t everyone browse and book online. We certainly don't have local travel agents for short breaks, especially in the UK.

To those of you being supportive, as always, thank you so much.

If you can't be bothered with airports I think either Edinburgh, York or Bath would all be nice over Christmas.

FallingsHowIFeel · 15/11/2022 08:10

We usually spend Xmas in Cornwall. It’s lovely.

howaboutchocolate · 15/11/2022 08:12

I'd get the Eurostar to Paris or Amsterdam. Big cities are lovely at Christmas.

Sparkletastic · 15/11/2022 08:16

Playa Blanca in Lanzarote. It's a great resort and there are so many fabulous restaurants nearby. I love Cesar Manrique's art and always visit his home and the other sites on the island.

Caspianberg · 15/11/2022 08:16

Dont go to a city for a Xmas market. Most actually close on December 23rd. So aren’t open on actual Christmas Day

BIWI · 15/11/2022 08:18

What an unnecessarily unpleasant response @Imnothereforthegiggles

Clearly you're not here for the conversation or support either Hmm

@Lulanna if you're not sure about flying, I'd look into Eurostar services to Paris or Bruges or Amsterdam - all lovely places to spend a few days over Christmas.

elliesmummy19 · 15/11/2022 08:21

I’d book a lovely cottage somewhere in the UK. Warm, cosy, shut yourself off from the world, country walks etc.
