Induction hob or ceramic

Which one to go for and why? I have no idea of the difference. I am a die hard gas hob fan but no gas supply sadly.

my le cruisant work just fine.

Pity about my spelling though :)

I am new to induction and I Quite like it but long for gas.
Mine is a touch control Hotpoint which I'm not that keen on, cuts out if you spill any water and takes an age to start up again and it's a bit of a faff having to sort all the rings out.
Can anyone reccomend a good one with dials or alternative controls?

Induction! Absolutely love ours!

Get induction. Ceramic hobs are inefficient with electricity because they take so long to warm up and then waste heat when switching off. Induction is immediate and very responsive like an open flame you would normally have with gas.

Mine are LeCreuset, also wedding gifts. They work brilliantly on induction. Very even cooking

My smeg has dials and I love it for it! Although it has already got scratched which I'm a bit annoyed about 😞

Induction is wonderful for all the reasons already stated.

Not relevant to you because you can't get gas, but even though induction is more efficient than gas it costs more than gas to run.

Taking an age to start up doesn't sound right. The beauty of induction is that it heats up so quickly.

TwinklingStarlight · 14/11/2022 20:19

I think ceramic gets a bad rap. Most people's last ceramic hob was made many years ago and they have improved since. The last one we had was a Which best buy and streets better than all the previous ones had been.

That said, the only reasons to choose it over induction are cost and pans. I don't love my induction hob but I have to admit it's easier to clean, quicker, and safer because it auto shuts off when you take the pan off or when it gets wet.

I like the slider controls a lot more than just + and - buttons, but knobs would be even better.

It's after a spill it is slow to respond

Could all you induction lovers tell us your make/model?

Thanks for the smeg recommendation, anyone else willing to share their favourite?
Have you been convinced to go for induction @emanonsah ?

SummerSazz · 15/11/2022 18:25

@peerie. This is my Smeg 110. It is an expensive beast but a beautiful one and A rated.

peerie · 15/11/2022 19:15

That is a beauty and the kind I'd like but my ovens are one on top of the other 😫another thing I dislike about my new (inherited) kitchen.

JeniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 15/11/2022 19:20

I have a Faber Galileo. Love it.

RampantIvy · 15/11/2022 19:48

Mine's an AEG.

BretonBlue · 15/11/2022 19:57

Cast iron works perfectly on induction hobs. Iron is magnetic. I found that my good-quality pans all had stainless steel bases and worked perfectly. I had to replace a few cheap pans; Aldi’s pans are very good.

I love my induction hob and wouldn’t go back to gas. You may need an electrician to check the electricity supply.

emanonsah · 15/11/2022 20:58

@peerie yes I am definitely going induction after reading all this!

@BretonBlue interesting that it needs special electric supply but an electrician will be installing so I guess he will sort
