Tips for visiting in-laws abroad

Looking for the above please! We're off to stay with my in-laws for nearly 2 weeks soon and for the first time with our baby...and I'm feeling really anxious about it. We'll also be splitting our time between my MiL and FiL (staying with one, then the other, then back to the first). I honestly feel exhausted at the thought of going...any tips for how to make it less stressful please?

Oh OP, I find it very stressful visiting my in-laws and we never go for more than a week!
The things that help me are a) having DH completely on board with me - he knows that his Mum winds me up massively and being able to laugh about it with him eases it a lot and b) getting out and doing things - we tend to plan most of our days with them quite fully as their house isn't child friendly and is just not a very fun place to be. They are absolutely welcome to join in with us as much as they like, or not, and they tend to mix and match.

Having done this for 25 years + I would also encourage you to spend at least part of the day out and about just you, dh and dc otherwise you will feel like strangling your in-laws within a few days. I would also not sweat the small stuff. My mil had very different ideas on raising children and how they they should act in her home (sitting still at a dinner table for 3 hours+ when they were toddlers!) In hindsight, I wish I hadnt let her irritate me as much as she did. Now I would tell myself that I am only there for a few weeks and try and laugh it off.

Book a cheap hotel nearby for the middle night. Somewhere with a little restaurant attached so you don’t have to go anywhere. Somewhere that you can breathe.
