Can I have sex with a prolapse organ?

I don't know what has prolapsed. Internet says sex is okay, I'm terrified because it feels all weird, I can't even put my fingers up to have a feel of what's going on. Anyone had this?

I think you need to go to your GP and find out what has prolapsed.

CanYouFeelMyHeart · 14/11/2022 07:30

My physio told me sex helped to whack stuff back up there 😁

But yes, go to the GP because there are different types of prolapse and you need to know which you're dealing with.

I don't even think about mine really, just do my exercises and that's it. Doesn't make any difference to sex.

Hi, pelvic health physio here.
good idea to go to the gp for a check but don’t be surprised if they aren’t overly interested!
sex is totally fine if comfortable, it won’t make it worse.
otherwise, prolapse can often be improved with pelvic floor exercises, improving constipation if an issue and strengthening the muscles around your pelvis. It’s very possible to live indefinitely with prolapse as long as it isn’t symptomatic as surgery is not always a good idea (it definitely is indicated sometimes though).

I have 3 prolapses (bladder, bowel, womb) and sex is absolutely fine.

Oh thank you very much! Mine is very uncomfortable and feels like I've just given birth! Can't seem to walk for more than twenty minutes. Still okay to have sex? I have a physio referral but I imagine it will be ages

What I've been told is that sex with prolapses is fine. It pushes things back in to place (temporarily sadly!). As long as sex isn't uncomfortable for you then it's fine.

OldWivesTale · 14/11/2022 10:09

You can have sex but it might feel uncomfortable. It won't do any harm though. Just try it to see how it feels. Also my prolapse moves around so sometimes it's more uncomfortable than others.

JustFrustrated · 14/11/2022 10:47

Have you been examined by a GP, as they can usually identify what the prolapse is.

In my case it was a cystocele, and they didn't bother referring to physio, straight to Uro-Gynae who has treated it with just a pessary after determining my pelvic floor was a 4 out of 5 (I.e. exercises were going to be of no help)

I could have sex just fine prior to the pessary, but had to be careful with positions due to pain.

You need to identify what the prolapse is a first point.

Also, yes, any constipation issues, however mild, need to be resolved quickly.

And make sure you're doing your pelvic floor exercises religiously.

@ladyandthechocolate can I please ask for your thoughts on using a kegel exerciser such as perifit or similar. Are they recommend by physios?

Sorry if this is an intrusive or inappropriate question, but if you're feeling so uncomfortable do you actually want to have sex?

Lincolnremainer · 14/11/2022 11:18

No I don't really!

No I don't really!

Then I hope you are not being pressured to d

LaPerduta · 14/11/2022 19:16

Sorry, posted too soon.

...to do so. If you are, can you say you've been advised not to by your GP? (And then possibly LTB...)

Lincolnremainer · 14/11/2022 19:24

Sorry I meant that I don't want to because I'm scared! I would like to get back to normal though, no pressure from my lovely DH at all!

@CalicoAnnie they can be quite helpful but it depends a little on your reasoning for wanting one. Firstly it’s possible to cheat the machines with poor technique and secondly if you have some pelvic floor overactivity then that can make you sore and do nothing for your symptoms.
I quite like Elvie and Perifit because their user interfaces are nice and some people find they do help with issues such as stress incontinence and prolapse.
