Any dishwasher repair experts?

My dishwasher has died on me. Initially I thought it was a problem with a clogged filter, and it still might be, but the obvious act of cleaning it hasn't led to success. According to the manual the number of flashing red lights means of the following:

Water tap closed. - The water tap must be open.
Kinked water inlet hose or clogged inlet filters.- The water inlet hose must not be kinked and the relative inlet filter in the water tap connector must not be dirty or clogged.
Water pressure too low.

I'm assuming since it was working yesterday it will be something to do with the inlet filter. Is this something that's easy to clean or get to? It's an integrated dishwasher so if I can't get to it from the inside of a dishwasher I will be in trouble.

We moved here last year and the kitchen appliances have steadily died on us. Both the oven and the fridge freezer were over 10 years old, so I assume the dishwasher is likely similar.

Help!

Is there water that's not draining in the bottom of the dishwasher?

Merrow · 13/11/2022 15:22

There was initially a pool of water at the bottom which made me think there was something wrong with the filter. Cleaned it all out and tried another cycle and it started off sounding promising, then there was odd clicks and beeps and nothing more. No longer water in the bottom and no sign that more water has entered the dishwasher.

We had similar, pulled it out, tipped it sideways for a few minutes and tried it again. Worked fine after that. Worth a try?

I'd be tempted if it wasn't integrated and I wasn't 5 months pregnant! Ignoring the pregnancy I've no idea how I'd even go about getting it out.

I had similar. This is what I did...

Make sure water under the filter is at a low level. Pour soda crystals or baking powder, then a cup of white vinegar. Make sure your salt levels are also topped up.

I also put the soda crystals and vinegar down my kitchen sink tap holes at the same time. It bubbles a bit. This is normal.

Then try and run dishwasher on the hottest setting.

This cleared mine after a week of the flashing lights and stopping mid cycle.

  1. Turn Off Power and Water Supply: Before you start, make sure to turn off the power to the dishwasher and also shut off the water supply to it. Safety first!
  2. Access the Filter: Since your dishwasher is integrated, accessing the filter might require you to pull out the dishwasher from its slot. Integrated dishwashers are designed to be installed with a custom front panel that matches your kitchen cabinets, so you'll likely need to remove the panel to access the front of the dishwasher. Check your dishwasher's user manual or installation guide for instructions on how to remove the front panel.
  3. Remove the Bottom Rack: Once you have access to the front of the dishwasher, remove the bottom rack inside the dishwasher. This will allow you to access the bottom area where the inlet filter is usually located.
  4. Locate and Clean the Inlet Filter: The inlet filter is usually situated near the bottom of the dishwasher, around the area where the water inlet hose is connected. It might be a cylindrical or flat filter that can be unscrewed or simply lifted out. Carefully remove the filter and clean it thoroughly under running water. You may need a soft brush or a toothbrush to help remove any stubborn debris.
  5. Check the Inlet Hose: While you're at it, inspect the water inlet hose for any kinks, twists, or blockages. If you find any issues, gently straighten out the hose or clear any blockages.
  6. Reassemble and Test: After cleaning the filter and checking the hose, reassemble everything in the reverse order. Make sure the filter is securely back in place, and the bottom rack is inserted properly. Reattach the front panel if you had to remove it.
  7. Restore Power and Water: Turn the power and water supply back on, and then run a test cycle on your dishwasher to see if the issue has been resolved.
Remember that specific dishwasher models can vary, so always refer to your dishwasher's user manual for precise instructions tailored to your unit. If the issue persists after trying these steps, you might need to contact a professional technician for further assistance or consider replacing the dishwasher if it's indeed quite old.
